So, I just passed a.....

I just passed a piece of gauze/string thing! It wasn't bloody at all, it was just light brown, with what you could tell was some darker blood. I'm not bleeding now as a result or anything, I just hope this is okay! It wasn't huge or anything, maybe 3/4 inch long...but what do you suppose this is? Cuff stitches? Should I worry if it's not bleeding? Eeeks!

The post op check points on this site says you can pass parts of the stitches and that it is normal. I have not done that. It would probably freak me out also. It would make sense that it is a stitch and probably no big deal - but if you are worried just call the doc's nurse and ask her.

Go to "Post Op" (in the top blue menu bar with pink flowers). Then click "checkpoints week 3-4, etc" in the blue square box under "Resources".

Re: So, I just passed a.....

Just had my first post-op appt and my doc told me not to be alarmed but at approximately 21 days after surgery the sutures from the insides will start to come out with a little bleeding. This is probably what you are experiencing but always side on the air of caution and call the nurse.

Re: So, I just passed a.....

When my stitches dissolved, they looked like little speckles of finely-ground black pepper on the toilet paper. Just a few at a time, never too many. It lasted for barely a week and then was over and done with. I think I'd have freaked a little too if something big enough to be recognizable came out! You should probably call your doctor just to be on the safe side, but I have a feeling that you're fine and have nothing to worry about.

Re: So, I just passed a.....

Thanks Everyone!

Yeah, it definitely wasn't in line with what everyone has described as thinner, thread-like stichy pieces. It was about the thickness of a tampon string, and white (which had turned light brown with some darker, like I said, obviously discharge material.).

Also, I'm now 12 days post-op....just shy of 2 weeks, which I would think is a bit early for such things to start dissolving, but there's no blood so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! My post op appointment is (supposed to be) next Tuesday...maybe I'll just wait and ask about it then unless I start bleeding or running a fever.

I don't think they did any vaginal packing. The conversation with my nurse went something like:

me: Did they do any vaginal packing with gauze or anything?

nurse: No, I don't think so...

me: It doesn't feel like there's anything in there

nurse: Then there's probably not...

Then she left and never said anything else about it or checked or anything! So maybe something's finally working its way out! lol!
