Vaginal area appearance

I had a LAVH on 9/24/10 and I haven't seen any posts in this regard. I am concerned about the appearance of the vaginal area. It seems very stretched. I know it was probably extended quite a bit during surgery but was wondering how long before it gets to look a little smaller (for a lack of better word). At the pre-op appointment, my doctor stated the actual vagina would be smaller due to the fact that I had uterine prolapse and when she did the hysterectomy the area would be pulled up to its normal position.

Re: Vaginal area appearance

I laughed and joked that my "area" looked like a saggie elephant!. it does go down. I cannot tell you how quickly since everyone heals differently. I can tell you if it becomes MORE swollen or looks even more different. then call dr. I became swollen and Dr. prescribed estrogen cream to be placed 2 times a day and that has made things look "normal" again. Hence the "elephant" is gone and Dh says it looks pretty!!??? hang in there. it will get better! or call dr.

Re: Vaginal area appearance

Your description of a saggy elephant really does a great job describing it. Can you tell me how long it took to resemble "normal"?

Thanks

Re: Vaginal area appearance

LOL I have not even looked at mine yet, partner has and did not say anything bad but I am too scared to look especially now I have the saggy elephant picture in my head. My surgeon did say it would be tighter after surgery due to the repositioning and stitching etc.

Re: Vaginal area appearance

Saggy Elephant, that's too funny!! I love it!! When I had the hyster, I got some repair done on my saggy elephant and it still isn't ever gonna look like it did 25 years ago.

Re: Vaginal area appearance

There is a question on another thread asking about "the vagina hanging out about 3/4 of an inch"....is this part of the swelling or is this not what you ladies are describing?

Re: Vaginal area appearance

Well, sometimes in the beginning of recovery, I too felt like it was falling out if I had to be on my feet for too long...felt as though there was no support in there...But that has subsided quite a bit in the past week. Hopefully thats all youre feeling too. Good luck
