Re: going under tomorrow for my full hysterectomy and WOW

I can relate to you today as I am also going in tomorrow morning for a hysterectomy. I got up and started laundry and am now cleaning my stove and kitchen. I took a break to get on this website. I will hopefully be going home the next day if they do a LAVH, but there is a chance it might be abdominal, which I am expecting. I had a dream last night that I had a LAVH, hope that is a sign. I am having mixed feelings right now, trying not to think about it. I am getting scared by the minute. Good luck tomorrow and see you on the other side!

Re: going under tomorrow for my full hysterectomy and WOW

they said they are going to try one way but most likely going to do an incision. oh girl i am sooo there. i took a break also due to my hubby telling me i had to or he was going to make me. i went with faster method lol. i had a dream also last night that i woke up with an incision and i was crying for mike b/c i had to go to the bathroom and it hurt. other than that i just dream that my house is going to be destroyed when i get home. no school pics b/c the check was not in the envelope. good luck tomorrow. i will be thinking of ya when i am in there to.

Re: going under tomorrow for my full hysterectomy and WOW

Thanks! I think I better get off of here now. I just read some posts regarding the pain and recovery after an abdominal hyst. Great, my mind is racing now. I will hope that BOTH of us do not have to have an abdominal hyst. tomorrow! Hugs to you!

What you ladies are going through is TOTALLY normal............try to stay as calm as you can. Do something relaxing this evening if you can.........meditate, pray, listen to soothing music, take a long bath (if you are a bath taker as opposed to a shower taker); it will be a while before you get to take one.

It will all be over soon.............sending you healing wishes and hope for an uneventful and speedy recovery!

Re: going under tomorrow for my full hysterectomy and WOW

I wasn't nervous, but I was just waiting for it to be over. So the day before, I did everything I could to keep myself busy. I was doing a bowel prep, so no solid food all day, therefore, I couldn't console myself with ice cream or cake or cookies. Instead, I cooked, I cleaned, and I did everything possible to keep myself busy so that I wouldn't go stir-crazy.

Don't worry, it'll be here before you know it, and then it will be over, and you can breathe a sigh of relief.

Re: going under tomorrow for my full hysterectomy and WOW

First things first....Hugs to you ladies. As Fight said, it is totally normal what you are going thru. We can say relax and meditate, but sometimes it isn't that simple.

Nicola: I can already see a few posts from now that you couldn't help yourself and now you are in pain. This is going to be worse if you end up having an abdominal vs. your LAVH. Before my surgery I asked my dad to come down (A) because I wanted me dad, and (B) i thought it might be helpful for my DH, especially on that first day, getting the kids off to school, getting me admitted into the hospital, etc. Well, that went over well, my husband was offended that I thought his daddy skills were in question, and my dad didn't have any PTO. OK, soooo not my intention to hurt DH's feelings, just trying to make it easier. Point I'm trying to make is, give Dh some credit, the house will not burn down, and the kids should survive unscathed Take comfort in the knowledge that you did everything you could to help him, so now you can take a well deserved rest and let them pamper you. There is nothing that says you can not direct operations from your recovery zone!

Patters: I had an abdominal hyst and while the pain sucks in the beginning, it isn't as bad as you think. Yes, I said I had incredible pain when I woke up, but they had it manageable before I left recovery. I had a designated nurse (every patient had their own designated nurse in recovery, what a beautiful concept!) and she was wonderful and did everything she could to help with the pain. Like I said before, it is amazing the amount of narcotics a body can take, and it is ALOT! Once you get back to your room, you will get a morphine drip that will be all yours and you can self medicate every 10 minutes. Believe me, I did. And the pain was very manageable. Yes, that first walk that night is not a peach, but the more you get up and walk, the easier it gets. I would recommend giving yourself a boost of morphine before you do it. My nurses and PCT's were absolute angels and wonderful and did everything to control my pain. Also, if you don't already have one, I would request a private room. I saw one of the sisters here recommend that, and I tried it the morning I was admitted, and BAM, i got one. I could not imagine having to recover in a room with more than one IV pole. That was the one thing that irritated me the most, my IV pole and my alarm on my leg thingies. Cripes I was ready to rip them out and off!

Ladies, I'll second Fight's recommendation to relax, but if you can't, don't obsess overmuch. Get the things you can get done done, have faith in your recovery team. If your kids are old enough to be helpful, let them. Even if they are really young, they will enjoy getting Mommy a pillow or a little glass of something to drink. Follow your recovery instructions, and just remember, it won't be as bad as you think.

Blessings to you both!

Becky
