Six Weeks Post-op and hot flashes are here

Hello Everyone,

Underwent total abdominal hysterectomy 8/27/10 and now six weeks post-op. t first told doctor to leave ovaries, but didn't right before going under anesthesia told her to remove everything, but heard after surgery the ovaries were in good condition so now I suffer from hot flashes. My doctor gave me samples of Vivelle Dot, but after reading the side effects I decided that they may end up killing me instead of the possibility of ovarian cancer which was my doctor's initial reason for suggesting removing both ovaries along with the fibroids.

Any suggestions regarding successful use of natural hormone replacements would be highly appreciated. I realize that natural herbs may work differently depending on the individuals, but I need some ideas as to where to start looking and who to talk to. If it is any help, I live in the Dallas Fort Worth area of Texas.

There are hints along with information in the Post-Op Page to help get you through recovery and you're welcome to post new threads on the Post-Op message board to ask questions. To get help with managing surgical menopause without hormones, you're welcome to post a new thread on the No Ovaries - No Hormones - Managing Menopause message board, rather than in Post-Op, so that you can get input from those who can't or choose not to use hormone therapy. Per the website guidelines we can't share doctor names on the message boards but members can email or PM (Private Message) you with names to share.
