Sleep Disturbances

I had my uterus removed on 8/31/10. All was going well until last week when I started having problems sleeping.
This is my fifth night of waking up every 1 1/2 hours. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Re: Sleep Disturbances

So you kept your ovaries? Or are you on HRT? Seems like I generally have a night of sleep issues right before I change the HRT patch. I don't know if it is because estrogen is getting low or what. I did not have concurrent days of waking up. Maybe you need to call your doc. Did you do a sudden drop in medications - maybe pain pills?

Re: Sleep Disturbances

I wish I could help!! My surgery was 9-22-10 and I still have not gotten a good nite sleep. Also haven't been able to take naps so that's not the problem either. I am on HRT Went off pain meds day after surgery thinking they were the problem. Sleep improved a little but not enough. Maybe the lack of activity is a problem
Good luck and I'll be watching for helpful hints here.

Re: Sleep Disturbances

After reading quite a bit of information today, I think it is hormonal and I am going to call the doctor on Monday.

Again, thank you

Re: Sleep Disturbances

I am 6 months post op from TAH/BSO and I had a terrible time after I got off my pain med - every night. I still have nights that I do that but not as bad. I can't take HRT so I had to get creative. I treated myself to some new pjs w capri type pants (my legs sweat too bad with night gowns) and very soft comfortable material and loose. I also treated myself to a really nice new pillow - tempu ped ic foam with a very soft cover. I started taking nAleve PM which helped a lot when it gets really bad. I also have been exercising every day and that probably helped the most. I also try to drink most of my fluids before 4:00. I try not to drink too much after 7:00 and no caffeine after 2:00. I keep my house cold - some days 65 isn't cold enough. By the time I wake up in the am, my covers are off even when the temp is that low. My husband thinks we live in a refrigerator now. Hope it helps.

Re: Sleep Disturbances

I've never really had any problems sleeping until prior to my surgery; the stress of going through every senario possible, coming to terms w/it and finally going through the surgery (which I was so glad to do), I haven't had but one good nights sleep and few others that were okay for the last 5 months. I'm 57 and hadn't gone through menopause prior to surgery. Anyway, within a few weeks between hot flashes and insomnia it has not been pleasant. I still have one ovary, and I started taking Estroven Energy, Estroven PM and Organic Cider Vinegar and things do seem to be looking up. I am not on any HRT and feel with a little more walking and weight training I should feel better. The one night that I slept so well and woke up to 6:14 AM, I told my husband I was going to be so happy that day I would make him sick--he thought that was funny. I am not going to do HRT and so I'm willing to try anything. We'll see.

Hi there,
Just wondering why you are adverse to HRT? I just watched a DVD about menopause and I related to the women in the DVD and one of them said why suffer if you can take something to alleviate the symptoms?
I am trying bioidentical HRT..ie. specially compounded for me by a chemist from a doctors script. I am very sensitive
so my experience with the patch wasn't good. However,
if I can't get a right mix on the compounded HRT I will try
another variety of conventional HRT cos I believe that it is
just a matter of finding the right one for me to suit.
I am also having sleep problems but hot flushes/sweats
are better.
I agree with you that with exercise I feel better.
with best wishes,
Judydownunder

Re: Sleep Disturbances

Judydownunder... I was looking into the biodentical HRT but don't know who or how etc!!! My Dr gave me the estrogel pump and I'm using it. When I questioned him about the biodentical he said this is just like it. BUT this is a script written for many not made for me. Online it seems the closest dr dealing with biodentical is 2 hours away. I'm in Florida.
Thanks for any info

Re: Sleep Disturbances

Thank you for the responses. I took sleeping pills last night and still woke up after 2 hours and was up for another 1 hour from 1 - 2. I am trying to give my body time to heal.

Do you know if the body does make the transition from not having the hormones it needs to leveling to allow for a good night's sleep?
