Having the ovaries removed

It has been a long time since I was last on. I now have to have my ovaries remove. The left is the one that is affected but they are taking the right because of my history. My first operation was for cervical cancer, cervix and uterus were removed. I have to tell you I am scared. Really when does it stop? I do have a question, I have become one of those people that read what ever I can on losing ovaries. So what I am asking is there any natural hormone replacement that can be taken to prevent all the horror I read on losing your ovaries? I have to be honest my sex life was great after my first operation. Now I read if you lose your ovaries you lose your sex drive. I am sorry but the cancer can not have that, I LIKE that . Any help would be great. My surgery is 10/12/2010, and I probably won't be on for a couple of days after. Look forward to hearing from all of you, Susane.

Re: Having the ovaries removed

I had my ovaries removed also. I have been on Premarin once a day and doing good.
As for the sex, it has been ok. We still can't hang from the cieling due to it being tender still...I am 10 weeks post op.
But, I can pleasure myself and get a great "O"!!! which for us is awesome.....

Re: Having the ovaries removed

I just use the patch. I've noticed some good comments about Estroven, an herbal, if that's the route you choose. My GYN suggests acupuncture. I've tried neither but you might like to look into them if you don't want HRT. I had a separate BSO, too, and it was an easy recovery. I hope it goes well for you.

Re: Having the ovaries removed

Susane ~ I hope you are doing well - do share how things went and are going.

I am waiting for surgery on the 4th & will be losing my left and last ovary. I am equally apprehensive as you were when you first posted. How has that all gone for you? Are you on hormone replacement? Questions questions - to ease my own mind I am very much hoping to hear that you faired well.

Re: Having the ovaries removed

I just had my left ovary [last one] removed 9/23. I'm on the Combi patch [estro/pro combo]. I need it to help with my endo problem--my uterus was taken out 2004 and I still have a problem with endo. I have had a couple of hot flashes and if something touches my heart I can cry easily. BUT I am not crying all the time. So far I think I am OK. My pain is going away and I am slowly being able to do more--slowly. I have felt some excitement in the sex department but I have to say that right now I don't want to deal with that feeling. My DR has not released me yet to have sex so those feelings can wait a little longer till I can use it. Hope you are doing well!
