Princess home, punctured, and feeling great!

I am home, had a total hyst on Tuesday morning at 8AM, released today at 3PM. I have not felt this good for several years. That is an outcome I had not anticipated! Here is what I discovered for myself:

They have this pain scale they deal with from 1 - 10 (10 worst). For the last two plus years I have been running around with a 3 - 4 pain constantly and when it spiked I am guessing a 6 - 8. So, my pain is less now (1 - 2) than before surgery. Weird huh? But wonderful!

Incision is larger than surgeon expected, from about two inches inside the vaginal hairline to the belly button (which I no longer have now) and then veers off to the right about 3 inches. He has to go a little larger to get the tumor out intact. No wonder I had so much pain pre-op. The pain just kind of sneaks up on us and we live with it over a long period of time and don't realize it.

I had wonderful medical staff. The hospital I went to assigns you a nurse that stays with you from pre-op until way after post-op. It is so nice to wake up to a friendly, caring face that you are familiar with. Even after I was returned to my room she stayed for another two hours to make sure I was comfortable and every need was met. I couldn't have gotten better care anywhere. My surgery was 3 hours long and that entire team was awesome.

Am I glad it is behind me? You bet, because if I feel this good now I know I have even better times aheads. Now, I know I still need to behave, to be the princess and to stay feeling this good that is not a problem for me. I have a wonderful loving husband and adult children who are very caring and will make sure my every need is met.

Staples come out next Thursday, post-op at 2 weeks, then 4 weeks, then 6 weeks.

I thank God above for His hand in this entire surgery and His continuing love and caring.

Hugs
T-Anne

Princess home, punctured, and feeling great!

Wonderful News T-Anne. Glad you are doing so well. Keep that positive attitude!! I agree that when you suffer for so long that having surgery can be the answer to your prayers. A few weeks of being out of commission is worth all the pain and suffering that was done prior to surgery. I have told people that I have had tooth pain that was worse than the pain I had with my hysterectomy. Not having a period anymore is the absoulute greatest! I just love walking down the "feminine hygiene" isle at the grocery and saying "talk to the hand"!! ha ha
Continue to do well. Take care of yourself and God Bless.

you're an inspiration

Hi T-Anne!

Great news that everything went well for you and that you are feeling better already!

You are an inspiration to all the LIWs out there!

My TAH/BSO was due to a large tumor that I never knew was there (no pain, no symptoms....) until they found it on a pelvic exam. But now that I've become a princess, I feel better now than before the surgery - which tells me that evil tumor WAS altering the way I felt, and now it's gone bye-bye!

And MaryBeth, I know what you mean by passing that aisle and saying 'talk to the hand'! (we need a graphic for that!)
