Menopause 10 years after TAH??????

HELP

Hi, I am 52 had a total hysterectomy (including ovaries) 10 years ago. Have been on hrt (Ogen) ever since. Now I feel like I am going through menopause...could that be? Now I am getting hot flashes and night flashes, insomnia, mood swings etc. Did not have this after the hysterectomy. The question is can you still have menopause symtoms even though you have been through a hysterectomy? I would like to try some other type of hrt. Are there tests to determine if my hormones are not working? Hope someone has an idea, thanks.

Menopause 10 years after TAH??????

Wen there are a few things that you could have checked out. First, yes you can check the levels of your hormones to see where they are. You may also want to have your doc check your shbg (sex hormone binding globulin) to see if maybe that is high and binding up some of your estrogen. Second area to look at would be your thyroid. It is common for some women to have thyroid problems after a hyst and as we age the risk increases also. Menopausal symptoms and thyroid symptoms are very close and can sometimes be confused with each other. There is a great article that was written by Janie and Trish at http://www.hormonejungle.com concerning the thyroid and what needs to be checked. If you have any questions after reading the article please feel free to come back and ask away

Yeah, what Brenda Lee said.

Just wanted to add that a lot of those "menopause" symptoms are signs of fluctuating levels, so it seems a good idea to find out why they are fluctuating now. It must mean something else is going out of balance.
