pre-op done yesterday

My pre-op testing was done yesterday I was there for three hours. What a long day. Now the wait for the 26th. I am afraid and can't wait for it to be over. I was wondering if anyone knew if you had surgery on a Tuesday and they said two days in hospital does the surgery day count as a day? My husband seems to think I will be going home on Friday as I think I will be going home on Thursday.

Re: pre-op done yesterday

My surgery day was counted as day 1 when I had my hyst. I think that the nights are what are really counted sometimes.

Re: pre-op done yesterday

Please tell me exactly what tests your pre-op consisted of? Patient education, too? I feel better if I know...

Re: pre-op done yesterday

Mine was a Tuesday, went home Wed. They considered that one day. My pre-op was done right before surgery. Consisted of talking to nurse and anesthesia about health history and a blood count. They waited for my blood count and got the results in the pre-operating room area and said I was good to go. I would not have been too happy if they canceled the surgery at that point since I had the iv in and was all set to be rolled into the OR! I had not been having heavy bleeding, so I guess that is why they waited - they did not expect me to too low to have surgery? I was borderline low and after surgery was in the anemic range.

Re: pre-op done yesterday

I talked to a anesthesiaologist and a nurse had a chest xray and some blood work.

Hi crazylady! (for some reason it's really fun to say that!)

I would suspect that you'll be home Thursday, like jeanus says it is usually the nights they count. Sometimes they say you will be released that same day, but that means less than 24 hours and still counts an overnight. Don't feel bad putting a call in to your doctor to ask though, you need to be able to plan!

You are now officially dealing with the hardest part, that terrible wait that just seems to go by so slowly. Hang in there and do everything you can to focus on things that make you feel good and relaxed. Spoil yourself as much as you can, and let yourself think about AFTER surgery when you are moving on with your healthy new life! Rent some funny movies if you like movies - or anything else that is distracting.

Maybe get yourself some special lotion (tho you probobly have to go light on the scent, unless you have a private room) or lipbalm for after surgery - I was so glad I had both!

Re: pre-op done yesterday

I went in Monday, & they told me 2 days, then released me on Wednesday. I figure you will go home Thursday, but have a plan, just in case an extra day is in order. That way, it's one less thing to worry about.

Re: pre-op done yesterday

Mine is scheduled for Monday, October 25, and the doctor expects I'll return home on Thursday. I'll be thinking of you.
