My bladder sling was a good thing
I had my hysto & bladder sling on Nov. 12, 2009
I had & still do have many questions. At the time I had my surgery
I did not know @ this site.
It has been a life savor for me!!! But, I could never find anyone who had the sling done.
Am now at my 10 mo. post opr. point. It was a long road for me, but I feel that it was all worth it.
I am still in a recovery of sort...not at 100%. Had 4 surgeries done at one time.
This sling was a good thing & I know it! But, it has kicked my butt! LOL

Re: Bladder sling issues, help!
The past few nights have been awful. Severe acid refulx doesn't help matters. Ended up going to the weekend convienent care to have the doctor tell me what I already knew.....I have yet another UTI. Had to call the doctor & cancel my Friday appt since I'll be out of state; rescheduled the appt. for Monday. Nights are still rough. I'm up every 2 hours, bladder full.....only to sit there for 5 minutes mim. peeing in hesitated streams. Only getting relief when squeezing the cut off stream muscle.....make sense? Then when I get up & still feel full......self cath only to find out my bladder still contained 350-400 ccs of urine. Although I can probably live this out......seems like I'll ony have a world of problems with it. This UTI is kicking my tail for sure......
Thanks for all the prayers.....God can heal anything!
I'll let you know how Monday goes with my gyn/surgeon.
Huggs,
Veronica

Re: Bladder sling issues, help!
Tues. 9/14/10
Time: 3:27 PM
Sorry for the UTI infection....I know they just seem to hang on & on. Mine did anyway....I used RX & AZO from Dec. 10th of '09 till off & on pos. May 2010. I'd give myself a week or two, then feel the burning again...get right back on them. Just hang in there & don't get discouraged!
I know it is a long recovery...still having a few problems myself still. I still have questions I'd like to ask @ the sling...but would like to do that later? OK?
Yes, let me know what you find out @ Drs. apt.!
Reflux was a bit of a prob. w/ me b/c my gall bladder removed...I'd just have to take my husbands Nexium & seemed to stop for a few mos.
You should try cranberry w/ grape...? This was told to me to be good for your kidneys.
I also had some problems with getting use to foods again. NOTHING tasted good. I lost from a size 16 down to a 10 & am proud to have kept it down.
My taste for foods have come back but I really don't eat as much. Smaller meals & walking when I can. Just DRINK LOTS of WATER....less soda's, lemon-aide & too much fruit juices. The acid makes that bad...or did for me.
Am praying for you...
Get your feet up 2 or 3 or 4 X's a day!!!
Get your heat pad for 5 mins. or so....
REST....DRINK your WATER.....
Time will heal us
Your Friend in the Lord,
Robbielcw

Re: Bladder sling issues, help!
I've been wondering about the taste thing myself. My family thinks I'm nuts, but nothing tastes right to me at first it was smells too, now it's just that everything is slightly off! Also I posted a couple weeks ago that my bladder issues were almost gone, I jinxed myself! No infection but a lot of discomfort & back on pain meds as well as Urelle.

Re: Bladder sling issues, help!
Hello!
I am no expert at all. But I did my Hysto & had a bladder sling Nov. 12, 2009. Am now 10 mos. post Op. & am still sort of in recovery mode. I am not going to discourage you at all. But most of us do find & I just want you to know...this is not a 3 or 4 week recovery. You have to give yourself several months.
Also, remember that this can also pull loose if you don't watch what you do later on....you just set your mind to take care of yourself. Be careful not to do any heavy lifting at all!!!! Give yourself a limit and stick to it. All ways remember to eat & drink right. Walk as soon as you are able a little every day. Drink lots of water! No sodas, coffee but if need just a little. This cuts back on father problems.
Rest as much as pos. for as long as you need every day!
Get off your feet & put them up. Become one in the first few wks. with your hot pad & a good book.
Don't rush your recovery!!!
I am praying for a good and safe surgery. You are with sisters here that are here for you. Visit this site as much as pos. but just don't sit for long periods at the computer....I found this game me more problems. Get up & walk around. But, you can read as much as pos. here...and other sites...learn all you can @ your type of bladder sling proceedure. There are different types & methods. ASK Questions going in as much as possible.
Don't hesitate to call your urologist when you feel you have a problem. Ask questions...you are going to pay them to do your surgery...they should answer your questions....or myself.... Keep us posted as soon as you can.
I am praying for you....
God Bless & Keep you thru your journey

Re: Bladder sling issues, help!
There is good news.....it all settles down. I am on week 6 and I am better. Almost back to my old self! I have no leaking and basically pain free. I have my final check up w/ the DR in a week or 2 and expect good answers. Now...I do have to concentrate a little to release a full bladder and it still hurts to sneeze but otherwise, I am good.
So, take it one day at a time, it gets better.

Re: Bladder sling issues, help!
Phew! I am glad I am not alone. I had a full hysterectomy, cystocopy and bladder sling done September 1st. I had the Foley Cath removed about 12 hours after surgery while still in the hospital. I felt great the first 5 days I was home until the UTI set it. The Dr gave my 7 days of Cypro (allergic to sulfa drugs) which ended last week.
The bladder spasms have been unbelievable and the cramping comes and goes. This morning I woke up and my bladder was so full it hurt. I went to the bathroom and felt like I could just not empty my bladder. Since waking up this morning, I have been using the bathroom aver 20 minutes and actually urinating a decent amount each time, but I still feel like I need to go.
Like someone else had mentioned, I too get the pulling on both sides after being up and moving for a while. I am assuming it is where the bladder sling was attached. I am still showing blood in my urine (tinited) and I am now 20 days post op.
Very frustrating!

Re: Bladder sling issues, help!
It does seem like recovery takes longer than I was told by doc...You hear it is a really quick procedure...while that is true, I think the recovery is not always so easy.
Please hang in there sisters!!
I had LAVH & TOT bladder sling on Sept 10th. Had to stay in hospital longer due to not emptying bladder - immediate infection after - had to switch to 2nd antibiotic from Keflex to Cipro...in last few days of that now. I really hope the infection will be gone and stay that way.
It does seem that most days get a little bit better. When I "go" it seems like I have to really think about it to get it to start, and then it just is not as "strong" as it once was - it takes a while to empty (sorry if TMI) I have noticed the same low aching that others describe and wonder if things are moving around inside my belly quite a bit. It is really unnerving when I feel it.
I was really frustrated my first week - thought perhaps I had made a mistake with my decision. Now, I'm seeing a little more light - I think the time for healing from the bladder repair was certainly underestimated.
Hang in there!!
