Anesthesia - rapid heart beat

Anyone remember coming out if their anesthesia and having a really rapid heartbeat?? I can't really remember what the nurses/docs were saying but I remember feeling very anxious and them talking about my heart rate being high... Dr never said anything to me, so maybe I was just having a panic attack or something (I take meds to control them)

I think I'll ask doc what that was about... Might've just been a side effect if the anesthesia, huh??

Re: Anesthesia - rapid heart beat

Could be, or reaction to pain. If they didn't need to give you special meds to lower it, you were OK. It'll be interesting to hear the explanation but sounds like it corrected itself. I'm glad you're OK now.

Re: Anesthesia - rapid heart beat

The medications you were given are more likely responsible for rapid heart beat...your central nervous system(whih is responsible for your anxiety) was also out of whack which is common as a side effect of anesthesia

Re: Anesthesia - rapid heart beat

I remember thinking my heart was going to beat out of my chest. It seemed faster but I was never given anything for it & my blood pressure was fine. I think a lot of it is the medications & then just the trauma your body went through from the surgery.
