Reasonable time to wean off ert?

Hello - I had my annual visit just this month and my GYN also mentioned the "quality of life" issue. However, it's both my internist and endocrinologist that really wants me to start to wean off of my HRT. They say the longer (it's been almost 6 years now since my surgical menopause) I am on it the more concerns they start to have (in terms of stroke, heart attack, etc). With so many conflicting opinions out there, what are we to do? If 2 out of 3 Docs working with me suggest to start weaning I'm inclined to think it's time. And then, in terms of weaning, there are many conflicting suggestions of "how to" out there as well! I'm exhausted and I haven't even started!!! I am now on 0.025 Vivelle dot. Have been at that lower dose for a few months now and am starting to cut the patch in half. At first I was told to only apply once a week vs. twice a week and then learned that it would be too drastic. Any suggestions??? How long is a reasonable amount of time to wean?

Re: Reasonable time to wean off ert?

I'm in that same boat but the more I read, the more I think I'll stay on it. Check out these 2 links, for example:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti...00376-0086.pdf

???? It's all so confusing - one says yes, one says no. What about trying a lower dosage? I went to Vivelle Dot 0.075 and have felt fine with that.

Also - I don't think those patches are meant to be cut in half. Check with the pharmacist or someone on that.

Vivelle Dot can be cut in half with no problems. The dose in related to the area of the patch.

Interesting articles Mikeyfan. I think I'll stay on my HRT also!
