Choices

I know i already wrote some concerns ladies, yet I'm still torn. I have the choice whether I want the doctor to remove just the cyst which have a 50/50 chance of growing back or completely removing my ovaries altogether. Im 37 yrs old and he is concerned about throwing me into surgical menapause. My concern is whether or not I'm may possibly have to have another surgery.

If you were me what would you do?

Re: Choices

I had to choose on the ovaries. I was told there was a 10% chance of cancer so I went ahead. Would I do it again? Probably not, but at the time 10% seemed high. Would I rather have another surgery instead? Yes, if it could be laparoscopic. But that's all in hindsight, which as we know is clearer. HRT is a maybe they'll get it right, maybe they won't, sort of deal. Great if it works, hard if it doesn't. So, I have no answers except my own experience and what it has meant for me. I guess, almost certainty you'd have to deal with sudden menopause, vs 50/50 need more surgery? Only you can say which seems worse or preferable. One thing-----you can always remove them in a 2nd surgery if they act up again, but you can't put them back. Best wishes on a decision right for you.

Re: Choices

Hello sisters,

Well I decided to have the bilater oopherctomy. My surgery is set for Dec. 17th 2010. Im a little concerned about the surgical menopause but am praying and hoping for the best. I am hoping I am one of the fortunate that feel better than ever. I have had so many years of pain, sleeplessness, moodiness I think it will possibly level me out or be no different than what I already experience.

Any suggestions on the recovery.

Re: Choices

I had several cysts removed off both ovaries and a few months later they came back. I also had ablation done on my first surgery. When my doctor did the ultrasound after I started complaining of pain again she informed me that my fibroid had grown too. So I had everything removed this time and feel great. I'm 48 so closer to natural menopause than you so you have to do what is best for you. If I had thought the cysts would come back so soon I would of had it all done at my first surgery, but again I'm older than you.

Wishing you a quick and easy recovery.

Re: Choices

Deca
I kept one of my ovaries during my hyst and wish I would have had them take it then. I ended up having to have it removed barely a year later. Everyone is different and you must make the decision that is best for you.
Best of luck with your upcoming surgery!! I hope that everything goes well and you have a quick and easy recovery.
