Mesh Used for Repairs and MRI's

Does the mesh used in A&P repairs interfere with MRI's in anyway? I have to get annual MRI's of my brain and want to make sure. I don't know what the mesh is made of. Anybody know?

Re: Mesh Used for Repairs and MRI's

Do you know if they always use mesh for a&p repair?
I'm supposed to have that to but she didn't say if I was getting a mesh put in there. I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you.

Re: Mesh Used for Repairs and MRI's

I wouldn't think something would be used that would be unsafe for use with MRIs, but I would ask to make sure. I had the Transobturator Sling (TOT) surgery Dec '08 and mesh is used as a sort of hammock, but I think I recall it was made of polypropylene material. I also have clips where my gallbladder was removed and they were not harmful when I later had MRIs, also have a titanium plate w/screws in my neck and no problem with MRI with that either. If the metal isn't magnetic, there isn't a problem with MRIs. Ask your doc for confirmation so you can be at peace.
(((hugs))) and blessings to you.

Re: Mesh Used for Repairs and MRI's

That's what I'm having is the TOT sling. I also had my gallbladder removed years ago and it has never caused a problem with MRI's so I'm sure this won't either. It's funny how your mind just thinks of mesh as metal, but I"m sure I'm wrong.

Thanks for the replies and I do have it on a list of questions for him tomorrow!

Just getting nervous and too many things coming to mind I guess.

You're going to love your TOT! I was sore for a little longer than I expected, but it is great!
Don't feel bad about asking too many questions. I think I have asked friends more than once if they have had a hyst; I seem to forget that I have asked them already...my mind is on overload these days! Let us know how your appt goes!

Re: Mesh Used for Repairs and MRI's

What does "TOT" stand for?

I am having a posterial wall repair done with mesh. Is there an abbreviation for it? Can't find it on the abbreviation list. Also having TVH.

Made the mistake of looking up mesh repairs and it scared me - what can go wrong, etc. Don't look it up - everybody and every body is different.

Duh - I just fully read the above. I see what "TOT" means now. Sorry.
