Anyone else craving solitude?

I'm 2 weeks post-op and find I am craving peace and quiet. I was home by myself for the first couple weeks, but now dh is home on some much needed vacation, and although I appreciate his help soo much, I just really want to be alone. He has all this energy and it just makes me feel a little tired and guilty just watching him.

Last nite I felt all this anxiety (and thought it was plummeting hormones), but then I realized hey, I think I just want to be quiet in the house by myself...

I could never tell him this and hurt his feelings, so I feel safe sharing here. Anyone else relate to needing things to be peaceful, slow, and quiet?

I don't think you are alone. I can relate to the guilty feeling. I am 8 days post op. Watching my DH make dinner exhausts me and make me feel guilty, especially after a 10 hour day at work. I love being at home alone. My DS's are 13 and 17 and they are in school...leaving me home alone. My DS's do not have school thurs or Friday this week. I am almost crabby about it. So, you are not alone. I think we all need peace and quiet so that we can heal physically and emotionally. Sleep when we want, cry when we want or even hysterically laugh for no reason when we want. (The laughing part has happened to me 3 times - it hurts but I can't sop...makes me feel a little crazy). But this is what my body needs and I hope you feel better. You are not alone and we all are here for you.

Re: Anyone else craving solitude?

I am feeling the same! I am staying at my parents house and they are in their 80's. Last Friday my dad became ill and since then my brother and sisters have been coming here and staying the whole day, with all their very noisy kids. They keep running and screaming and their parents keep moving all the time around the house. I feel almost that I am going crazy with all this...

Re: Anyone else craving solitude?

Me too! My husband got laid off shortly before my surgery and is here all the time...He is also a professional musician so he is playing his music and guitar all the time. I think that him doing all the work is depressing me, but at the same time all the noise is driving me nuts. People from work calling all the time and after a while I want to scream! Also, I have done the hysterical laughter thing a couple of times! scarey, but needed to be done.

Re: Anyone else craving solitude?

Thank you for your kind responses! Reading them felt like getting a hug from a good friend. Today I sent dh to Kohls's armed with a 20% off coupon and it was so nice to be alone in the house. I didn't even care that half of what he bought has to go back!

Thanks!

Re: Anyone else craving solitude?

I have been retreating to the bedroom every night under the guise of "I need the heating pad" - but not using it half the time... I just want the solitude - so I can read in peace... WRONG/?? Maybe, but I swear sometimes my DH can drive me batty!!

Re: Anyone else craving solitude?

I think we need to take care of ourself emotionally & a lot of us do that by being alone. I am a housewife now & am home alone a lot & I still love it even after a few years. Once you feel better you may want to get back in the swing of things but there is nothing wrong with needing alone time. Take care.
