treadmill

I have just read some post regarding getting back on the treadmill, i have to admit I was surprised at how many of you want to work out after such a major and difficult surgery. I am three weeks post op and have been going crazy not being able to do the things I use to do. I am a nurse and we are on our feet and walking all the time, so i miss that. I got on the treadmill for the first time today and it felt good, my intentions was to try 10 min only but ended up doing 20 min. I could have done more but didn't want to push myself to hard. I think my Doctor will be ok with it when i go for my 4 week post op visit, just as long as i don't push it to hard. Shawna

Re: treadmill

My Dr never restricted walking, but I wouldn't use much of an incline or speed on the treadmill until you get clearance.

Re: treadmill

Is anyone using an elliptical yet? I have just been walking outside, but I know my walking weather is about to end.

Re: treadmill

I'm 3 weeks + 1 day post op. When I went for my post-op appointment last Friday, my doctor wanted me to wait until at least week 4 to exercise. And, she said no ad work until after week 6. I'm still not allowed to pick anything up or go up and down the stairs. She said it could cause an internal hernia and that would not be good. But, listen to your body. Right now, I feel like I could workout, but I won't because I don't want to cause unnecessary problems for myself.

Re: treadmill

I started walking on my treadmill at a crawling pace at about 2 weeks because it was just too cool some days to walk outside. My doctor was ok with this as long as I didn't do it on an incline or walk to fast.

But every doctor has reasons why we should and shouldn't do certain activities.

You should always check with your doctor to make sure they are ok wish this type of exercise.
