No urge to urinate

I'm 2 weeks post-op today, and still can't feel when I need to urinate! I have no problem controlling my urine, but the sensation of a full bladder is just gone.

I spoke to my doctor about it a few days ago, and she said that it's from having the catheter, and I need to pee every 4 - 6 hours until I get sensation back, but how long will that take?

So far I just go when I see I've had a lot to drink, and it tends to be about every 3 hours. Is it okay to go that often?

Re: No urge to urinate

I also lost the normal "urge" feeling to urinate for about 8 weeks after surgery. Instead of that "urge" feeling, I only felt uncomfortable in the abdominal region. I soon realized that the uncomfortable feeling was my new clue to urinate. The normal feeling did return with time. As to if its Ok to urinate about every 3 hours - I must say that is my normal pre and post surgery. I normally sip on water all day long, so voiding every couple of hours is necessary for me.

Re: No urge to urinate

I had a similar experience, but I loved it. Used to have to urinate about every 2 hours, and with the pressure of the uterus gone (very enlarged) I guess that feeling has subsided. I now go like 'normal' people much less often, which is great. Noticed this right after surgery, that the urge was gone, and I do drink a lot of water and coffee, so it's not due to lack of fluid intake.

Re: No urge to urinate

That happened to me as well! I would start to feel more uncomfortable in the surrounding area and then it would finally hit me that it is cause I have to pee. It is only in the last month that I get the normal "gotta pee" feeling. I had my TAH 3 month ago today! I felt I did better going more often instead of waiting till surrounding area hurts. I remember getting up fairly often at night too. It seemed that my bladder couldn't handle much at all. Now I can wait till morning! Yipee!! Have patience cause it will get better!

Re: No urge to urinate

I'm 2 weeks and 4 days post-op and I have the same thing happening! I was thinking about it and worrying about it last night. It seems I can go forever without peeing and I actually have to just go pee every couple of hours - It's good to read that this will get better and I shouldn't be worrying.

Re: No urge to urinate

I was the same. Had a catheter and UTI after surgery, and took a while for the urge sensation to come back. I took myself to the bathroom regurlarly or when uncomfortable.

I recall asking about it at my 6 weeks check up, all back to normal now.

Wishing you all the best with your recovery

Re: No urge to urinate

Yes, everything went as planned. I'm feeling great aside from fatigue and the occasional leakage.
