Early menopause with ovaries?
I had a robotic assisted hysterectomy almost 10 weeks ago. My ovaries were not taken. The last several weeks, I've been having major mood swings, enlarged and tender breasts and a libido that seems to go up and down like a yoyo. Has anyone experienced this? Could it be my hormones acting up, or could this be early menopause. I'm only 31, so it wouldn't be the onset of normal menopause. Help! I'm confused!

Re: Early menopause with ovaries?
I have read here and other places that if you still have your ovaries, you can still get PMS symptoms every month since your ovaries are still creating hormones. Or, maybe it's your ovaries just waking up sine your surgery?? I'm still very emotional and moody, but I've lost track of my menstrual cycle, so I'm not sure if it's PMS or not...
Good luck and hang in there!! If it doesn't get better, I'd talk to your OBGYN to see what he/she has to say....

You can have perimenopausal symptoms in your 30's, hysterectomy or not. A good book is "Before the Change" by Ann Louise Gittleman.
You could be experiencing the hormonal surges that they talk about on this site, where you ovaries are just waking up after surgery and causing uneven estrogen levels.

Re: Early menopause with ovaries?
At about the same time in my recovery from a TAH (kept ovaries) I started getting crazy symptoms like cold flashes, hot flashes, anxiety, which then turned into night sweats, and insomnia. This all lasted for several weeks I am now at the 15 week point and I am happy to say I am not experiencing the cold/hot flashes or night sweats lately and I have been able to get some sleep at night. I did not have the breast tenderness like you though. I have read on here that our ovaries fall asleep after surgery and I believe that is what I was going thru and probably still am. Best of luck to you.
