Surgery Consult Tomorrow!?

First post for me. Never used a site like this kind of nervous about it. The news has me more nervous though. Found out the other day that I have several fibroid tumors and a non cancerous lesion in my uterous. Only treatment is a hysterectomy. Get the details tomorrow of what is to come.

Re: Surgery Consult Tomorrow!?

Hang in there! I would ask what your options are...DaVinci, lap, total abdm, etc. I would try to get the one that is less invasive..if your conditions and insurance allow for the less invasive surgery. If you feel unsure about anything, see about getting a second opinion. Best wishes, and let us know how you are doing!

Re: Surgery Consult Tomorrow!?

Good idea to have all your q's written down. Welcome - Im fairly new also. I am scheduled for total laprascopic hysterectomy on Dec 14th. This site is wonderful!! The women on here are lovely, caring and the ones who have had this done already are so good at answering our many questions. Often the surgeons etc don't have the time. The other thing I found of immense value was to have a pre-op consult with my anaethesist (yesterday). This was great and he made me feel much happier about the whole thing - anaesthesists are normally also in charge of pain relief etc. I had a choice of open abdominal - and still had to sign a consent in case they can't do it via laprascope but my chances are really good - if you are not happy with who you see then get a second opinion (I was NOT happy with the first gynae I saw at all who wanted me to try a Mirena coil - and Im soooo sensitive to progesterone). Read the helpful hints also which are just great on little tips on how to make your stay at hospital (the castle) much more comfy and how to progress with things on coming home.
This site has helped me so very much - even simply by knowing I am by no means the only one going through this. It's emotional as well as physical. At 49 I obviously dont plan on any more children - but I may lose my last ovary also so yeah - emotional stuff too and HRT considerations also. Most of all - pamper yourself - relax - journal if it helps you and read often....most of the posts here are extremely positive (I don't read any Horror stories ones) - and really there are not many on here. Most women get through this extremely well and only wish they had had it done sooner. Let us know how you get on.
HUGS. Susan in Oz.

Re: Surgery Consult Tomorrow!?

Went last night for my consult. She did answer all my questions at least for the moment anyway. My doctor was great (very comfortable with her, which is good) she went over everything and actually answered most of my questions before I even asked them. It will be a total abdominal due to the possibility of issues with the size of the fibroids. They will be testing during the surgery for any signs of cancer due to the precancer changes that are there. If they see any everything is going. Definatly scared me during the consult with the mention of the C word. I felt better when I left. My mother bought me my first surgery item, a puppy Pillow Pal for a tummy pillow. Hope you all have a Great Thanksgiving.

Re: Surgery Consult Tomorrow!?

Good you had your ?'s answered and the puppy pillow pal sounds very cute!! (wonderful Mum's!!).
You are only 2 days after me - less than 3 weeks now and I'm not so worried now - just really want it over and done with - recover and get on with life again. It will be a relief to have no periods, not be in pain, not have this swollen belly - and NOT be so exhausted constantly.
Actually - I can't wait!!! Happy Thanksgiving for all the USA girls - we don't celebrate that here in Australia (Christmas is HUGE). xx

Re: Surgery Consult Tomorrow!?

I'm not as worried anymore either, as long as they find what they expect to find. I never realized what was causing all the issues that I was having. It will be a great Christmas present in the long run.
