intense itch around incision sights?

Has anyone had problems with their incision sights? (Robotic surgery). Tomorrow will be 3 weeks and my 6 incisions are healing nicely, but it's almost like I'm having an allergic reaction to something. I originally thought it was just irritation from the coverings put on the sights, but now I have welts and bright red irritation on the incision inside my bellybutton, too, and their never was a covering on that sight. The skin around those area's are bright red with welts and itch intensely.....but it's not an infection. Cortisone cream helps for a few minutes.

Re: intense itch around incision sights?

Do you have subcutaneous stitches? You might be developing an allergy to them, hence the welts.

Re: intense itch around incision sights?

I have the same problem (from robotic surgery) I went to the Dr. he told me to use hydrocortisone cream and take benedryle, but the benedryle makes me extremely sleepy. I like putty ice packs on mine. That seems to help alot. I hope This helps. Love this sight, it has helped me so much.

Re: intense itch around incision sights?

You said you had "covering". I had glue, no strips or stitches, and I had a reaction to the glue. I ended up going to the doctor and having to get cream to put on them. I also used hydrogen peroxide to remove the glue. I took a while for it to come off.

I also had the glue and strips, gauze, and a thin, waterproof covering. No external stitches. I was fine until day 12 post-op and then had mild itching, so I removed the coverings. I went to my 2 week check-up a few days later, and just had some mild skin irritation at that point. It's much worse now. I agree with the above post about the subcutaneous stitches. Wearing loose clothes so that nothing rubs on them, and cold compress definitely help. It's just driving me craaaaaaaazzzzyyyyyyy, but this too shall pass ahhhhhh......

Re: intense itch around incision sights?

My navel incision from my LAVH lost its strip yesterday and was itching like hell yesterday evening. I'm not touchin' it. I think because of its placement, that particular incision does get a little more chafed than the others.

Re: intense itch around incision sights?

I didn't have any external coverings or strips on my naval incision at all (just the other 5) yet it's having the same reaction. That's why I'm thinking it has to be something internal causing the welts and itching. I don't think I scratched at all in my sleep last night! woohoo
