Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 29-Dec 05,2010

I really wish I would have found this site pre-op. I had vaginal hysterectomy Tuesday Nov 30 spent one night in hospital. Had some problems with urine output but luckily resolved itself by morning. I am still sore and very crampy. Still have yet to have bm and think it would make me feel wonderful. I am taking stool softners eating prunes and high fiber. Anyone else have a bm yet? I have been taking percocet and motrin. It all happened quick as I have been having terrible cramps for a couple months. Did ultrasound and found the coil from botched essure procedure was in my uterus. Dr took out uterus didnt find coil took out both tubes didnt find coil so he cut open my uterus in OR he said it was inside the muscle wall of uterus. It had moved since the ultrasound. Very interested in finding out the pathology report. Hoping we all have a speedy recovery!!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 29-Dec 05,2010

No BM yet, not worried. I'm taking stool softeners and it will happen. I am gassy, that all started yesterday I expect a BM will be today or tomorrow based on the gas. The gas is the opening act.

My legs hurt, that does have me a little worried. I know they worry about blood clots in the legs. The pain is right behind the calf muscle on both legs (which is why I think it's ok since it's both legs). I tend to think that it is from having to use my calf muscles to get raise/lower myself to and from the bed, toilet or couch.

Today I am very tired. I am forcing myself to get up and walk around every hour or so (unless I'm asleep). I think that will help me the most in getting my strength back and getting my bowels going and feeling better overall.

I only took motrin today so far. No percocet. I don't feel terrible either which I am happy about.

To be perfectly honest, I am having pain but the pain I had every single month with AF was so much worse. Just knowing I will never again have to deal with that makes me feel better!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 29-Dec 05,2010

Hi all-

OK, I'm burping, but no gas (the other end) or BM. I just had the LAVH yesterday. I'm walking every 2 hours (when I'm not sleeping). I'm still on a liquid diet (gosh- I hate Jello). I'm also taking Gas X. I have been told not to eat solid foods until I pass gas. Is this consistent with what others have been told?

Thanks,
Traci

I had my first bm yesterday but only after taking Dulcolax. I hope you all find relief very soon!

I was a little disappointed this morning when my help cancelled on me due to a sick child but I also understand & so I am home with my 2 1/2 year old alone today. Good thing he is behaving very well & is understanding of Mommy's owies. All is going well. My only trouble has been me starting to doze off & spilt my coffee all over the laptop. Now a few of the keys are sticking so I have to delete all the extra letters to make it all make sence. I hope it dries & resolves itself.

The woman next to me was on a liquid diet until she passed gas. I was on a liquid diet only for the first night, the next day they started giving me solids. I only started passing gas yesterday (3 days after surgery). I think I could have forced out a poof if I was faced with eating jello for another day if that makes you feel any better. If you feel good, just tell them you let one go. As long as you have bowel sounds your insides are working fine.

BM success. Just keep taking stool softeners and it will eventually happen.

I had my vaginal hysterectomy yesterday 12-2-10. I was released today around noon, doing much better than I even hoped! Trying to stay in bed, which I must say is MUCH more comfortable than those torture chamber beds at the hospital! Having walkie talkie chats with my son when I need something- he is 11 and a big helper! So far, so good!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 29-Dec 05,2010

I had my Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy yesterday morning, 12/2/10 around 9am. I had been having pain problems for almost 3 years after a Mirena IUD perforated my uterus and grew into my abdominal wall for about 3 months! Had to have it surgically removed and at that time I asked for a tubal in which the doctor made the decision to use metal clips. After seeking help from so many doctors, being sent to so many specialists, I finally decided to go with MY gut feeling on what was wrong, and I felt it had to do with my female parts given what happened 3 years ago.

Finally found a WONDERFUL doctor who actually listened for once, and concluded I probably had scar tissue in there-and endo- my uterus was tilted which he believes contributed to a lot of my back and pelvic pain. During surgery, they removed my fallopian tubes (which had those metal clips on them) and my uterus due to the fact that I had so much pain from it and the adenomyosis within my uterus as well. Another thing he found was a blood vessel that was swollen up the size of his thumb around my uterus as well which no one had a clue about until they were already in for surgery. Very thankful that it didn't rupture! He said that vessel probably had a lot to do with my pain issues all of these years too!

Came home around lunch time today. I feel as if I were hit by a bus truly- did not get much sleep in the hospital, and the gas pains are extreme right now along with the other sharp/soreness feelings. I was up walking in the hospital last night before anyone really asked me to, and have been doing breathing treatment/exercise as shown at the hospital to prevent pneumonia-doing the treatment was making me couch for awhile at first, and I'm sure you ladies know that coughing/blowing nose doesn't feel good right now! I hope you all are recovering well. I think the biggest thing for me will be getting a GOOD night of rest tonight...hope I can!
