Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 29-Dec 05,2010

Hello Princesses. I had my hysterectomy on December 2nd. I went home last night December 4th. My hysterectomy was more complicated than planned. I am in more pain than expected and probably will have a longer recovery. I originally was having the Davinci Robotic Procedure for removal of uterus and cysts on ovaries however, once the surgeon got in there they discovered severe endometriosis all over the ovaires and my colon. So he performed part of the procedure robotically and the rest through an open incision like a c-section cut in order to get to the colon and clear off the endo. I had a total hysterectomy ovaries and uterus and now will be going through menopause which I wasn't really expecting to do at age 43 but I am hoping it won't be too bad. Hoping for any advice from those that have gone through this. Hope everyone that has had surgery this week is feeling well and had a sucessful surgery.

Sounds like we had a similar experience! I am moving around pretty well but I think there was a lot of manipulation going on inside my abdomen during surgery so I feel a lot of internal pain. It will be 1 week tomorrow, I won't see the Dr. until next friday where he will give me all the details of what I'm sure was a nightmare for him to deal with. (Isn't it ridiculous that I feel guilty for my surgeon having to do a difficult operation? ***)

I am hoping to be able to drive by the end of this week but I don't know if I will feel pain free by then.

You aren't alone! I'm no where near marathon ready! My Hubs still has to help me stand nup to walk to the bathroom!
I've had a couple little pity parties too. Mostly disappointed that the friends I've always been there for when they needed me, I haven't even heard from. Then I feel guilty for feeling that way.
I also think I still feel pain in my missing ovaries.
I'm sorry you're feeling these things but reading your post made me feel ... normal. So thank you for posting!
Hope we both have a great Sunday!

Hopefully I'll figure out to quote the post I'm replying to sometime today... I tried to quote Eileen815 in my reply but only succeeded in making a duplicate reply that I'm now editing as I can't delete it... I'll just blame the vicodin

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 29-Dec 05,2010

Update to previous post on this forum. Surgery was Nov. 29th. Had felt recovery was going well until yesterday. Yesterday had headache and was frustrated/anxious over normal bodily functions returning, to the point that I had several crying jags. I have had one BM, but just gas after that. I can't tell when I am hungry until I am starving, and then when I eat I can't tell when I am full. This makes me worry about putting too much food into my system when it isn't working optimully. My back hurts when I sit too long. Walks around the house are getting really boring and can't go outside much cause it is too cold and slippery.

On the plus side I am not having any pain from my incisions and most of the gas pain has left my shoulder. The itchy feeling has lessened. I guess it is all just a matter of time. /pout Can't be thankful enough for my DH right now.

Blueyedame- I've also had some pity parties about friends not calling or visiting or even sending a card... then I feel guilty about it too! I realize this is a busy time of year, but then I think, would it kill them to pick up the phone and talk to me for 5 min.?? I go back and forth. I'm so glad I can talk about it on this forum!

[[Big hugs to you]] We will be ok and get through this!

Equusgdess... I know exactly how you feel! I was feeling pretty good the first couple days after surgery, then nausea, headaches, depression... Not sure how good my body is functioning right now. I had a bm once and then nothing. I know we will get through this!
{hugs to you!}

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 29-Dec 05,2010

Hey girls, I am so glad to see I am not the only one going through this. Tomorrow will be 1 week for me, LAVH. Surg lasted about 3 hours and I lost about a pint of blood. My dr gave me 15 Percoset to take 1 every 6 hours, ok thats fine here is where my real frustration is... I go to see him because i know i will be out before the weekend. He says well you really shouldnt be having any pain so here is 20 tramadol!! I am in pain, this crap isnt helping at all. Any suggestions??

I understand how you're all feeling about your system being sluggish and if you haven't had a BM yet, you only hope it will come soon and be easy. I'm hoping it will be for each of you.

Don't forget to post your recovery questions in the Post-Op forum so you can hear from those sisters who have been there. You can get so much support and personal experience for women who went before you.

I am always sending gentle and healing thoughts to each of you! Hang in there and take extra care of yourself!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Nov 29-Dec 05,2010

Good evening to all of you! I have been reading here for sometime and finally decided to post. I had my Total Hyst on Dec 2 with DaVinci lapro. I went home from the hospital on Dec 3 in the afternoon.

I was able to keep my ovaries which I am grateful for. I am not feeling terrible but very tired and have no energy. I just had my gallbladder removed after emergency surgery on Oct 10 and i think my body is wore out.
I find myself being very weepy at times which is not like me and today my belly seems to be swelling some.

Wishing all of you a speedy restful recovery!! Lots of <3333
