Constant need to urinate - 7 months postop
I have read some posts here about people a few weeks out of surgery having to urinate frequently, but I am now 7 months out and this just started to get worse the last month or so. I use to always get up once a night to use the bathroom (even before my hyst) but now its 4,5,6 times and going more during the day as well. I don't have incontinence and can hold it but the pressure is there. I feel like I can never empty my bladder, I may go and then 10 min later feel like I can go again even if it's just a few drops.
I was tested for infection which is negative and now I'm seeing my gynonc for an exam on Monday. They said this is normal right after surgery but they're not sure why I would be experiencing it now when I didn't before. I'm getting worried because I had my hyst due to a cancerous tumor in my uterus so of course them not being able to know what's happening has me thinking it's something bad again. Has anyone experience this overactive like bladder condition months down the line?

I also have this problem and it is due to interstitial cystitis. There are a lot of reasons that you can be going so much and probably a good urologist could help you. I test negative for infections because it isn't an infection but rather inflammation. It can also be over active bladder but only the docs can figure it out. Ask them for a referral to a urologist to get their input. Sending hugs

Re: Constant need to urinate - 7 months postop
Look up the IC bladder diet, keep away from acid foods! I did this even though I didnt have IC my bladder was always irriated, once I took better care of it, things got slowly better, plus I added a high quality vitamin C to my daily supplements at the amount of 3000-5000 to help my allergies, but in turn I feel it was the saving grace for my bladder, after years of having bladder post surgery issues I can say Im doing so much better!!! It takes time, dont take your bladder for granted, care for it.. I learned so much on the IC bladder website, again I didnt have IC but once I followed their advice my bladder slowly got better.. GOOD LUCK

i went to physical therapy for my urgency before i had surgery and one thing she told me to do, was that when i felt the need to go, to do a kegel and hold off as long as i could, therefore retraining my bladder

Re: Constant need to urinate - 7 months postop
Thanks Ladies. I went to my gyno oncologist (I had my hyst due to cancer and he wants me to see him first for anything that might be related) On his end everything looks good so he referred me to a urologist but the earliest available apt. is Jan 14th. Apparently it's normal to have to wait a month to see one, I'm really upset about that. I can't take another month of barely any sleep cause I'm up all night. I plan to call my oncologist and ask him for another referral, maybe someone else is less busy.
I'm also nervous about what tests they will do to figure out the problem. Are they very invasive?

Most of the tests are not that invasive and not really painful. Only exception for me was a cystoscopy which he tried to do under local and I started yelling and screaming. Had to stop it because I was hysterical and crying. It turns out if you have interstitial cystitis that you can't tolerate this without anesthesia. I know that I was ectastic when they did it under anesthesia. Woke up and was in pain big time. Gave me pain meds and doc kept checking me. It did get better pretty quickly but just a little warning. Hopefully you will be fine.
