Needing lots of info.

Hi! Well, I'm 46. I have lots of questions. I'm trying to make a well informed decison. I need more information. Just glancing through the forums, I realize I know nothing. I am looking at surgery very shortly, so I need to learn quickly. This has all happened in the last week.

I made a drs. appointment due to heavy periods. I was thinking about maybe an ablation. He did an ultrasound looking for fibroids and found a 8 cm complex ovarian cyst. He said it needs to be removed and he would do it laproscopicly. Then he ran the CA125 test, and the results were elevate at 96 - which isn't very high. Then he said he wants to take both ovaries and the uterus - and he would have to cut me open.

My head is spinning. I'm terrified of being cut. I don't know where to start.

Re: Needing lots of info.

I'm sorry that you find yourself facing surgery but you've come to an amazing site for information as well as for support. You're in good company!

If you haven't decided for certain to schedule a hysterectomy along with surgery for the ovarian cyst, you can start out over on the Hysterectomy Options and Alternatives message board. There's information to help with your decision in the Hysterectomy Options Checkpoint and a video to view here: Give Me a Second. Getting a second opinion as to just how extensive your surgery needs to be would be a good idea. You need to be as certain as possible that a hysterectomy along with an oophorectomy is best for your situation. If cancer is suspected, consider consulting with a gynecologist/oncologist specialist.

We look forward to sharing with you and will be here every step of the way to support you.
