Just started a walking program
I am a month away from my first hysterversary and am tired of looking like Mrs. Potatohead. I was at a women's group last weekend and one of the ladies confessed that she needs to lose weight or risk being put on insulin but she lacks personal motivation.
I mentioned that I have a similar problem: I have a herniated disc in my back, among other problems, and need to start walking but can't get motivated. We agreed to walk together.
We started together yesterday but she didn't show up today. I did my walk anyway, and feel great, but am worried that if she doesn't show up again, I will fail in my motivation. How do you keep yourself motivated?

Re: Just started a walking program
Find a different friend. I started walking with a friend a year and a half ago and have lost 35 lbs. She is the one that keeps me motivated so you need to find someone who will follow through. Gyms or exercise classes are a great place to find someone who will walk with you. Another idea which is really where we started was to join a walking club through a gym or a running clinic/store/wellness centre. Actually, that is how we started walking and eventually, moved off on our own.

Re: Just started a walking program
Thankfully, my 12 year old walked with me instead. I'm hoping this was just a one time absence. I'll give her more time, but yeah, if she doesn't show on a regular basis, it's gonna be a problem.
Thanks!

Re: Just started a walking program
For what it's worth ...
I lose motivation if I have to step outside the door ... I got myself a treadmill and I really do use it faithfully everyday at the same time. I have my runners and outfit on the floor where my feet hit first thing in the morning and make sure I do it before breakfast. If I had to go outside I always found an excuse .. the weather was too hot, too cold, too wet .. etc ... with my treadmill I never get bored cause I watch the morning shows or listen to the radio while I'm doing it.
Just bought myself some Skechers -Shape Up shoes to walk in .. have to see how they go.
Cheers
