Atypical ductal hyperplasia

Have not been on this site for a long time, so this has probably come up before.

I had a core biopsy and it came back as atypical ductal hyperplasia with microcalcifications. I will be doing mammo's every 6 months for the next few years.

In researching this, I have found several sites that state one should have extensive testing and possibly low-dose chemo. My doctor has never said anything about other avenues of treatment.

So, from those who have been dx with same, what have you done for follow-up & has anyone been dx'd with cancer since the initial ADH dx.

Thanks

Re: Atypical ductal hyperplasia

Low dose chemo for ADH? Goodness. Never heard of such a thing. Many women who have ADH never develop breast cancer; it just means you have an increased risk, hence the more frequent mammograms.

I've had DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ, which is a non-invasive cancer of the ducts) twice; both times the pathology also showed ADH, ALH (atypical lobular hyperplasia) and LCIS (lobular carcinoma in situ, which is a marker for increased risk of invasive carcinoma in either breast). I have had two lumpectomies, one of which was followed by radiation - the standard of care for DCIS - but never once has anyone mentioned chemo to me.

Re: Atypical ductal hyperplasia

I had the same thing. Had the microcalcifications removed in a biopsy since I had two, they excised them both through an open incision. Same day surgery. Now, I am going to a specialist in breast cancer prevention. Digital mammograms and breast MRI's yearly (scheduled 6 months apart). Also had uterine adenocarcinoma. Good luck. Check for a risk assessment program in a hospital with breast centers in your area.

Re: Atypical ductal hyperplasia

offpro61,
I am a member of a forum very similar to this one for breast cancer.
It's breastcancer.org
Of course, not everything is about cancer, but you would be able to post your question there and get a lot of help from the wonderful ladies on that site.
I've been a member on there for over a year now, and I have learned so much and have found it so helpful.
Good luck..
blessings. robin
