Question about average wait time before sex after TAH vs SAH

I know that each of surgeries and our doctor's instructions are individual, but I'm trying to get an idea about what the wait time before sex can be resumed and particularly if the weight time differs much between a TAH vs a SAH.

My doc has scheduled me for a TAH next week but is willing to leave the cervix if I want to. As I've read different post op posts it seems like there is on average a 6-12 week range for those who have a TAH. Could those who've had a SAH share their wait time?

For several reason this is one of the factors I'd like to consider in making the final decision between the two surgeries.
TIA

Re: Question about average wait time before sex after TAH vs SAH

SAH is the same amount of time. When I saw my doctor at 5 weeks, he said to wait another couple of weeks. I kept my cervix because I wanted minimal cutting inside me and if the tissue is healthy, there was no reason to remove it. I was fully aware that I might have mini periods but so far, I haven't had one. If I do, it will be nothing compared to what I have been going through for the last 40 years and I am okay with that.
One reason that people do keep their cervix is that is it thought that it may help support the pelvic floor but studies have not proven that conclusively. The way I looked at it, with the SAH, they didn't have to touch the pelvic floor, with a TAH they do so the less done, the better it was for me. I don't have vaginal cuff issues or stitches in my vagina because the uterus wasn't cut that far down. I do have 3 layers of stitches at the top of the cervix where it was attached to the uterus but I don't feel a thing since it is in my abdominal cavity. If you have fibroids, be aware that they can grow from the cervical tissue left as it is part of the uterus. I was/am willing to take that chance since I am so close to menopause and I had only 3 fibroids.

Re: Question about average wait time before sex after TAH vs SAH

I totally agree, Danni, and I would also add that even if we're released for sex in 6 weeks, with a vaginal cuff there is still the possiblility of tearing the stiches inside the vagina after sex. Also, it would take a little time to stretch out the vagina again because it can be slightly shortened when they cut the cervix out and sew up the top of the vagina.
