leaking

I wanted to know if anybody out there had a problem with leaking urine after hyst. I don't have any pain and antibiotics are not helping so I'm wondering if something strange is happening or if it is just taking a crazy course to get back to normal. I would appreciate getting some input about bladder function and recovery along with how long it took to get back to normal. My hyst was Oct 16th so I really thought I'd be okay by now.
Thanks
Ronda

leaking

Hi Sweetie, My hyst was Oct 1st and the end of last week was the first time I felt great! Then I overdid! But that is another story!
It takes all of us different amounts of time to heal! Please don't get too impatient with yourself!
I went through about two weeks of leaking urine. Now it is gone. I mentioned it to my dr and he just shrugged and said....sometimes muscles spasm and they cause that when healing.
But if you are worried you should check with your dr. I know the friends I have who have had a hyster, had some leaking after too but it went away.
Bladders are stubborn things. Once they have been moved around or tacked, sensitivity can be really increased. For a long time in some of us. Up to 5 or 6 months according to my dr. He feels I am lucky to get away with discomfort or leaking for only 5 weeks!
hang in there and call your dr if it is bothering you. I wouldn't want something to have gone awry, but usually it is normal along with cramping or spasming of the bladder or muscles around it.
Good Luck. Hang in there. Rest and heal. You deserve it!
Be patient.....
Love Peanut

also leaking

I am also leaking urine two weeks after the surgery and wondering what the heck is going on. I only leaked before if I was running or laughing on a full bladder. Now I have what seems like a slow leak. YUCK! I had a hysterectomy and anterior and posterior wall repair. I sure hope the leaking is short term.

Hi Ronda, You should talk to your Dr about when you can start doing kegal exercises. There was a very good thread called "Kegals???? Do they work?" It was very helpful. One of the posts refers to a web site that explains what kegals do to help with leaking. For more info go to:

I hope that this helps. Take care

leaking

Rhonda and Ellen: I just wanted to chime in with the other sisters here. I had a TVH with Posterior repair, last December. For the first few weeks after surgery, I would also find that I would leak a little. I was sooooo afraid that it meant that the posterior repair hadn't work and that I would have to go in for another surgery I DID mention it to my doctor and he was very quick to reassure me: as he'd mentionned before, the bladder is VERY close to the uterus and, with the enlarged uterus, it WAS affected by surgery. I can take a few weeks for the bladder to get back to normal. Know what? It eventually did and I can now run and jump without having an accident, something that I hadn't been able to do since the birth of my first child, 10 years ago!!!!

As the others have mentionned, though, it is always a good idea to check with your doctor: only your doctor knows YOUR specific case and the best course of action for YOU.

Wishing you the best of luck. Please keep us posted.
