Vaginal Cuff Surgery - Granulation Tissue & Burning Pain

I am now 7 months post-op of having TVH with removal of both ovaries, plus pelvic prolapse repair. I have been having a continual burning pain in my left side. At 6 weeks post-op, it was recommended to have a colonoscopy for the pain. The results of this test were negative. The pain continued and at 6 months post-op, doc found inflamed granulation tissue on the left side of my vaginal cuff, which he cauterized. This provided mild relief with pain continuing. At next follow up visit, the doc injected this area with pain and steriod meds. No result, except now the pain is worse. Today's visit, doc wants to do surgery on that part of the vaginal cuff to look around and see what's going on. I asked what he might find - answer was a possible stitch abscess, adhesion or problem with permanent stitch used for McCawley (sic) sling. If it is the stitch, it will have to be removed and then it's possible I will have prolapse again. It will be out-patient surgery under general anesthesia. Has anyone out there have repair surgery on the vaginal cuff ?? I have gone through the motions of pre-op labs and surgery is schedule for 12/30 - but I am very anxious about it. I want this pain to go away but I don't really know if this surgery is the right thing. Please help if you can. God Bless.

Re: Vaginal Cuff Surgery - Granulation Tissue & Burning Pain

I had a complete Davinci including my ovaries in July. I've had some pain, cramping and bleeding. My dr. found a suture granuloma along the entire suture line on my vaginal cuff. (I guess normally the granulomas are much smaller) I had out patient surgery on Monday (12/13) to remove it. He was able to cut it out without using more sutures. The pain has eased, although I am still having minor discomfort from the procedure. I am hoping that this "fixes" everything..I am ready to be done with it all. It sounds like your pain is more severe, I pray for a successful resolution for you and a speedy recovery. God's blessings to you as well!

Re: Vaginal Cuff Surgery - Granulation Tissue & Burning Pain

Dear Biggmeaux,
I read your post and it sounds like what they are wanting to do to me. I wish I knew how to advise you, but do not know how to advise myself with this granuloma over a permenant suture at the posterior opening of my vagina which is very painful. It is just very hard to trust surgeons after you have been messed up. I hope things are doing well for you and your problem is resolved. God Bless you ruthreb

Re: Vaginal Cuff Surgery - Granulation Tissue & Burning Pain

Hi ruthreb - I am really sorry you are going through problems. It is a very difficult time of not knowing what is the right thing to do. I know. Quite a bit has happened since my posting. I decided to get a second opinion and did not have the second 'exploratory' surgery. Instead 2nd doc ordered an bdominal CT scan and results were all within normal limits. Opinion - surgery was unnecessary. Physical exam showed no more granulation tissue and the vaginal cuff looking good. I was relieved as in my heart of hearts I did not want to go through a second surgery with a possible third. It will be 1 year since my surgery this May and not a day goes by that I am not reminded in some way of my hysterectomy. I still have the burning in my left side, but it comes and goes and seems to be becoming less with time. I wish I knew what to say to you exactly. The best advice I can give you is to respect your body and what it is telling you. If you are unsure, get a second and third opinion if needed. Find a doctor that you can really communicate with and ask questions no matter how trivial they may seem to you. It's your body. I wish you the very best. Write back when you can. I'll say a prayer. God Bless.

Re: Vaginal Cuff Surgery - Granulation Tissue & Burning Pain

Dear Biggmeaux,
I am glad you did not have to have surgery again. B complex vitamins are good for nerve regeneration. There are compounding creams that have neurotin, tordol, motrin and other ingredients that you can rub out the outside for nerve pain. I am glad you have no more granulation tissue. That is my biggest problem and I am afraid to trust just anyone to excise it. I will pray for you too. Your an angel. thanks for chatting ruthreb
