Burning/stinging/searing sensation

Hi, I'm new here. I had my TAH on 11/30/10 ovaries still in tact. I am 3 weeks post-op. In my lower right abdomen I am experiencing a stinging sensation that is excrutiating. It only happens when I stand or walk. If I lie down it subsides. It almost feels like someone is cutting or sawing my insides. I just started experiencing this pain 4 days ago. During the pain the spot where it hurts is very very sensitive to the touch and it feels like it is on fire. I have a dr appt on tomorrow but was curious if others have experienced this and if so how did you resolve it and for how long did this pain last? This is suppose to be my week to drive but there is no way I can drive with this. I get a lil depressed because I'm 37 and it seems that I am not myself after all of this and often times I question if I made the right decision. I had very large fibroids and uterus was size of 6 month fetus. I became extremely anemic and had to have iron infusions weekly before TAH. I also had to have blood transfusion after TAH so this has been somewhat of a bumpy ride. The first two weeks after surgery I felt great off all meds and was able to sit up most of the day. Now 3 weeks later I feel like day one! :^(

Re: Burning/stinging/searing sensation

I had this also -- it is normal......mine only lasted a day or so....remember there are lots of stitches inside and things are moving around......I remember it felt like someone stretched a rubber band as far as it would go and then it broke and zapped me....hang in there......

Re: Burning/stinging/searing sensation

MekMek I have the same thing. Talked to my dr yesterday and he said it was normal. I was afraid I had tore a stich or something. He suggested I use a heating pad to kinda sooth the nerves, but actually I think cold feels better...

Re: Burning/stinging/searing sensation

Oh I feel so much better knowing this is normal. To be honest I thought I had torn or ripped something apart in there. I pray it goes away soon. It seems every week I have a new problem. Last night woke up to a bad lower back ache. I have never had problems with my back. I will be so glad when my body has healed. I have suffered before surgery and now still suffering. I pray we all heal well.

Re: Burning/stinging/searing sensation

i had the same thing. It stopped after a few days. It went completely away in a weeks time. I am still cautious, though. let us know what your doc says.
heating pad worked wonders. I didn't want to use one because I felt like I was taking a step back. Take the step! Use the heating pad when you need one! Tomorrow will be the start of my week 4 and I feel brand new! It took this long, but i am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Re: Burning/stinging/searing sensation

Went to dr and she said that during surgery a lot of nerves were cut and pinned back. Basically the nerves are coming back alive and the feeling is normal. I had a vertical incision and she said most often the sensitivity is with patients who have bikini cut. She recommended to take motrin and reminded me that my body is still recovering and it's no sense in suffering (don't like popping pills). She also recommended a pain spray that is found in the bandage aisle. For now I am gonna take the motrin 600 and see if that helps.
