Posterior Repair after TAH + SBO

Hi all, I had my surgery on the 12 October 2010 and my surgeon has now said I'm suitable for posterior repair for a rectocile, I'm pleased that he will do the surgery as I've had loads of problems coming from the rectocile, but I would like to know what to expect pain/discomfort/recovery etc, if anyone can help me out, I would really appreciate it. I think I'm most worried about the scar tissue as I'm only 30, and I would eventually like to get a normal sex life back!! Sorry for being graffic :-/

It's a little different for each person, of course. But if you'd like to read about others' experiences, you can do a Google Search by going to the blue rectangle at the top right of the page here and typing in 'rectocele surgery'. You will get a list of posts that talk about it.

I had this surgery myself and did okay with it. My surgery was a 'simple' posterior repair using stitches only (NO mesh) and was a vaginal approach. There are other methods to do it and you will need to ask your doctor about how s/he would do it for you.

Swelling can be a problem for awhile with rectocele /posterior repairs and I got relief using Epifoam and sometimes cool packs approved by my doctor.

Some women have said it takes a full year for them to feel completely normal after this repair. Some have said a few months. It can be SO very different for each person.

I hope this helps a little.

Re: Posterior Repair after TAH + SBO

wow, i am amazed he is going to do surgery so quick after your other one, i have seen folks that have recovered quite quickly and others who haven't . i had all the reparis done together so don't know which one was causing problems when

take milk of magnesia and the colace twice a day in the beginning so you have diarhrea like stools otherwise it hurts

i used a sitz bath in the beginning too

my swelling didn't get really bad until weeks 3 and 4, week 1 i had pain, week 2 felt pretty good and then i went downhill from week 4 getting bladder problems possibly IC

I am also dealing with horrible hot flashes and insomnia from all my surgeries, but your are already past that

Re: Posterior Repair after TAH + SBO

Hiya, Thnks for your replies an advice, I do wish they had just done it all in one go, but as the rectocile has got worse since the hyst I suppose it wasn't bad enough then. I will just have to wait and see what happens I think!

Many Thanks xx
