I really have to stop reading other posts .....

...for I fear that I will drive myself koo-koo!

My mind races .. will they discover cancer? The ovaries? Since so many others have had what I have "atypical hyperplasia" .. only to get a big surprise after surgery.

I have been "atypical" (in more ways than one!!) since November (so .. 2 months), but I went from not atypical to atypical .. so, changes are happening.

I've always had my ovaries checked (from doing IVf'S) to presently having a small simple cyst or an ovulation cyst. You would think they would have seen something just 2 months ago I guess.

But nooooo... my mind races .... I become the people in the posts I read about and think "this may be me ..."

HELP!! I need to sit back and say "no, Donna, you are you, the people on the internet are totally different people, and your situation is individual". Okay, I said it .. but how do I now believe it?

sigh ... donna

Hi! I know just what you mean. I've been reading other posts and read the e book. It just made me freak out instead of feeling better. You're not alone in feeling this way. I have five weeks till my sergury and I'm already scared. Guess we just have to remember that everyone is different and you are you.

Re: I really have to stop reading other posts .....

Hi, ladies! As someone who has been where you are but is now a very successful post-op story, I feel for you! The best thing for me during the pre-op jitters was to read the success stories (look for posts with smiley faces or positive words in the titles) and to make a list of all of the reasons I needed to do this.

Also, let me just tell you that my surgery went wonderfully. I was able to keep both ovaries and my cervix, even though we didn't know what was wrong going into surgery. I've had no pain since the recovery room, other than twinges at the incision sites.

I hope this helps. The waiting was honestly the worst part for me. Best wishes!

Sucre (sugar!) how come you had to have one?

My BIGGEST fear is finding ovarian cancer when they take out the ovaries. Read too many posts where women have endo cancer (I have pre-cancer) and then pathology results were not as expected and ovarian cancer was found too!

I will look for the smileys!

Re: I really have to stop reading other posts .....

There does come a point where you can read too much. Just know there are people like me that had a textbook surgery & uneventful recovery & that it can all be just fine. Keep yourself busy so you do not have time to worry. There are many positive stories out there too. Just keep in mind that a lot of people come here because they have trouble while the ones who did not have problems are busy out living their lives. I wish you the best.

seabutterfly ... you have just spoken the words that my bf has told me ... over and over.

Can you message me or e-mail me with your good details? (ie: age, reason, recovery, outcome!) I would love that

Re: I really have to stop reading other posts .....

I just wanted to write to tell you I felt exactly the same way. In my case they found exactly what they thought which was more endo (been getting cleaned out of endo for 6 years.) Anyway these are normal fears and I must say this site helped tremendously while I was waiting for my surgery - I found more help here than reading articles, you read a tremendous amount of scary things and really, we are all different, all of bodies, lives, reasons for a hysterectomy, recovery from a hyster, everything is different, you really do need to keep that in mind.

It's very easy to scare yourself before this surgery. I stopped reading stuff all together after a while, I educated myself as much as possible, asked my doctor my final questions, and then just waited. You can definately scare yourself silly and you need to avoid that.

Now on the other side I can tell you that my fears did not come true, aside from healing I feel better than ever, I have a lot of hope for when I'm better, I'm glad my uterus and cervix are gone and I can move on with my life! My hormones are trying to level out now and I have no regrets. I had no choice for my health.

Worrying about this caused a lot of trouble with my relationship even because it's all I ever thought about, talked about, and I was worrying myself sick, don't let that happen. Share your fears but don't let them overwhelm you. It's good to talk to other women on here, especially women on the other side, a lot of the time things work out really well

Good luck!

Re: I really have to stop reading other posts .....

Hey! I had to have one because I had uncontrolled, unexplained bleeding, chronic pain, and I did have one confirmed fibroid. I get the pathology all back tomorrow, but my doctor's best guess pre-surgery was adenomyosis.

Hope you're doing better!

Re: I really have to stop reading other posts .....

I also started freaking out when reading the post op posts. Then I started to realize that many times we post when we have a problem or concern, but not when all is going well. In sticking more to the pre-op discussions, I've been able to read more and more stories of women who have had great success and are really encouraging. Good luck and wish me luck this Thursday - I hope I'm another success story and I hope you are too!
