Drain Bag? What's That??

Hi Puppy!!
I don't know what that is. You don't mean the catheter do you?
Thats a piece of cake if thats what you mean. You don't even feel it while its there, or when they take it out either.
Hopefully someone will come along with more info for you if its different than the catheter. I haven't heard of that at all myself.
Hang in there my friend. You are almost a Princess!! You are going to be just fine. You saw how good Lily did Friday, and I am sure you will do just as well. Keep positive thoughts Puppy!!
Love and Hugs!!
xoxo

Drain Bag? What's That??

Sorry Puppy....I haven't heard of that at all. But...you could post this question on the Post -op board as well to see if anyone there knows about it. There may be someone there who has had this and will let you know about it. Its still early, so lots of time for responses. And it will get more views on that board, especially where you would like to know tonight. Worth a try anyway perhaps ya think? Those phamplets are very detailed and have to give you information on all the possibilities I think. Also did you try a site search for this? May be something there from a past thread that will help as well!
You will be in our thoughts and prayers tomorrow Puppy!! Maybe your daughter can post tomorrow night how you are doing if she is familiar with the site. That would be great!!
xoxo

NURSES REPLY

A WOUND DRAIN IS A TUBE THAT THEY INSERT IN OR CLOSE TO THE INCISION FOR DRAINAGE OF BUILT UP FLUIDS.
NOT EVERYONE GETS THIS.

Drain Bag? What's That??

Hi Puppy,
Good that you posted on post op. As I say, a lot more traffic there in the run of an evening.
I called for my results Friday, and tomorrow is a holday here for Veterens Day, ( Rememberance Day here), and so they will probably call Tuesday. I am pretty confident all is ok, as they would have noified me by now I think if they weren't ok. But I still like to hear them say the words.....and to give me the marker number as I am keeping track of them.
You are so sweet to ask about that with all that you have on your mind!
Let us know if you get an answer to the would drain bag question.
You should have a nice hot relaxing bath tonight and have some candles and you favorite music and just relax for an hour or so. Baths are so relaxing I find!!
You are doing really well Puppy and you are so right...you do have lots of prayers coming your way!! Just keep hanging in there.
's, and more 's!!
xoxo

Drain Bag? What's That??

Thanks for letting us know about the drain tube Puppy. Wow..you got an answer fast on that one!! Well, that doesn't sound like something that you would need for your surgery. As I say I have not seen it here on the site in all the reading I have done, so hopefully its only certain circumstances that its required.
Thats good to know in case the question comes up again though!
Hope that eases your mind a little bit!!

Drain Bag? What's That??

Hi, Puppy!

I had a wound drain. Not many women have them--it depends on your doctor. Mine used one for all of my C-sections, and the nurse told me he was one of the few doctors on staff who used them (he's very cautious). The drain itself does not hurt while it's in. It's placed in along the incision line and stapled (or sutured) in place. They empty it every shift or so as it fills. It does kind of pull a little when you get up to walk, so you either need to tuck it in your underwear or hold it when you're up. Mine was always pulled late on the 2nd or early the 3rd day. It's not comfortable to have it pulled out, but it's not really painful either. There's a pull and a squiggly feeling as all the tubing comes out (4-6 inches of tubing), and then it's over. It's quick. So, if you have one, don't sweat it.

I'll be praying for you. Good luck, Puppy!

drain bag

I had a wound bag for about a week. I had radiation prior to my hyst and the radiation damaged my lymph system so it could not handle the drainage. It didn't hurt at all. When the doctor removed it he told me to take a deep breath and then he pulled it out. Other than feeling like an alien was wiggling out of my abdomen I didn't feel much and it didn't hurt at all. I went home with it and emptied it myself and had to record how much was in it everytime I emptied it so the doctor could tell when it was time to come out. Please try to relax and think about needing this to get back on the road to recovery. I know it is so scary. You will get through it. Take care and know everyone here is thinking about you and keeping you in their prayers.
