How long will I need dh home?

I go in on Tuesday 1/18. I'm having the Davinchi. I hope to come home that night, but realistically, it will probably be Wednesday morning.

I'm hoping that dh can go to work on Thursday. All the kids will get off to school, and I have arrangements for pick-ups and such. I won't have anyone else to take care of but me (and maybe let the dogs out once or twice). Is this realistic, or should dh plan for another day home with me?

IMO I would plan for him to be home the first few days are the hardest at least they were for me I wish you the best of luck with your procedure

I would have him home at last one day with you, you are very tired and sore, and it's nice when someone waits on you when you are feeling kinda sore

My Dh stayed with me for 10 days. It was nice to have the extra support and also needed him to drive me to urologist for catheter removal. Physically I didn't need him at home more than 5 days.

I had davinci - 1st day home it was hard to get out of bed. If possible, it would be nice to have someone home to get drinks, food etc. If not, not impossible, just be sure you have stuff close by so you don't have to get up and down a lot. By day three I was pretty self sufficient. As far as staying in hospital overnight, I would do it. Its a lot easier to get out of the hospital bed (use the buttons on the bed to lift you) than your bed at home. Good luck!!!

I had an LSH, but I hear the recovery is similar. I wouldn't have needed my hubby home after the first day (Wednesday for you). However, I also lived on the couch, which is easier to get in and out of than the bed.

That being said, everyone is different. See if he can plan to be home and go in only if you're comfortable with it that day.

Every surgery is different.

I definitely "needed" him home the first day for my LSH, but after that it was just luxury having him there (he is a train engineer and works 3 nights a week so is home every day).

In contrast to that, I had a second surgery with a lot of blood loss at day 21 post-op and I really needed him the first full 72 hours. He called off work to stay with me. I was very grateful.

As a note, you might want to take your showers when he is home so he can dry your calves. Sounds silly maybe, but it really was nice not having to bend over that far or lift my legs that high (think abdominal strain) and to not have cold wet legs.

He can stay home with me the 20th, even the 21st if needed. I will probably be on the sofa, rather than in bed, during the day. We have a reclining sofa, and that's where my stuff is anyway. I will make sure he's home when I shower the first few times. He's really good, and will do whatever I need.

I had my DH home for a week and then had friends stop in every now and again but didn't need them constantly.

I did have food that I could reach without too much effort so that made it easier to be home. He did help me with showers in the morning before he left for work if I opted to have one that day.
