Weight gain, flab and belly vent

Any one else notice that they gained only a few pounds but amassed a lot of flab?? Anyone here do that and then lose it?

I am at both my six week LSH anniversary and my three week hemorrhage surgery anniversaries today. Feeling pretty darned good excepting the lack of sleep and occasional twinges and pinches near the incision sites.

HOWEVER: I have gained 3.8 pounds in six weeks.

Worse yet, I appear to have lost a lot of muscle tone. For the first time I can recall, my belly is literally resting on my pelvic area when sitting upright (not when standing). EEUUUWWWW!!!!!

I noticed yesterday that I was itching there where the skin touches. It is red today. This is sooooo depressing. I didn't even have a lower abdominal cut.

The foods I am eating are all healthy excepting that one half cup of sherbet at night every now and again, in a tiny bowl.

I am walking every day. I walked several miles yesterday.

But yeah, the rest of the time I am reclining to keep the pinches and twinges to a minimum at the incision sites. Still not doing a whole lot in between as per doctors orders until I see her on the 20th.

Time to cut the portions even more.

Re: Weight gain, flab and belly vent

I feel your pain! Today marks my 4 week point and I'm totally feeling disgusted by my loss of muscle tone and such.

I worked very hard prior to surgery to be fit and healthy. I feel like this recovery period has sabotaged all of my efforts.

Before surgery I was used to doing 3 to 4 miles a day, plus a workout video. I also hiked, ate well, and was otherwise extremely active.

I've been released to exercise again, but have found that walking is the only thing my body is ready for...and it's not enough.

Feeling really flabby, depressed, and discouraged today.

Re: Weight gain, flab and belly vent

Skittie, I hear you. I used to walk a minimum of three miles a day during my walks at break during work PLUS exercise. It is heart wrenching that a weight gain of just under 4 pounds can result in so much flubber due to loss of muscle weight. I truly wasn't prepared to get this out of shape in such a short time.

I don't even know how to deal with my belly resting on my lap when I sit so I bought baby powder today.

Here is to hoping we can get back to where we were (once healthy enough to do so) just as quickly as it took to get where we are now.

Re: Weight gain, flab and belly vent

Hang in there, ladies. You'll get it back! Just take this time to eat healthy and let your body heal.
I had my surgery on Oct. 28 and was released to exercise almost 4 weeks ago. I was used to working out pre-op. but I was only allowed to walk until I saw my dr. at 7 weeks post-op. I felt flabby and had gained a few lbs.
I now do yoga and water aerobics at the gym several times a week and the flab roll is finally going away!

Re: Weight gain, flab and belly vent

Thank you Lovebirds!!! That is encouraging news!!!! My post-op appointment for clearance of both my surgeries is just one and a half weeks away. Crossing fingers and looking forward to being more active without fear of doing harm inside.

Yes, thank you LoveBirds! I am trying to convince myself to be patient. I totally agree that it's amazing how fast the decline happens...and I pray that, after my body is ready, I can quickly reclaim the muscle tone and fitness level that I'm used to!

You will!! I know it's hard to be patient, but the time will go by before you know it. It's so important for our healing not to rush it.

Re: Weight gain, flab and belly vent

Okay. I am getting freaked out by this. Today I gained ANOTHER POUND.

I was maintaining 178 - 180 for most of the six weeks post-op. I haven't changed my eating in the last three weeks. Then, in the last week I gain almost five pounds???

Question: I left one ovary. Do you sisters who still get PMS retain water just like you used to??? I had thought that without a uterus there wouldn't be the PMS weight gain. Was I wrong?

Re: Weight gain, flab and belly vent

has anyone experienced this....i am unable to feel if I'm getting full while I eat...so at all times I'm feeling hungry. That too can be a reason why I'm gaining so much weight. Oh, also I can't feel if my bladder is full until it's right at the end. My dr had no explanation why I'm feeling this. I was thinkin it was becuz all the stitches and healing that's goin on inside. But the dr. dsays no.
