Surgery Consult Visit tomorrow.....nervous!
Well I am meeting with a 2nd gyne tomorrow. The first one I saw did recommend a hyst ( I think ?!). I went to him off a referral from my regular doc as I have had problems for years and can't take bc pills due to migraines. He did a biopsy, which was normal, and an ultrasound (both external and vaginal) and these were normal as well. The problems I have are horrible cramps and gushing during my period but bleeding off and on all the time during the month. His diagnosis is that I have a condition in which the lining of my uterus is going up into my tubes instead of coming out. I wanted a hyst; but he wanted me to think about it for a month and also have me info on the thermochoice procedure. Okay, I can see thinking about it...but for a month?? I am 30, have 5 children and had a tubal done last December. What is there to think about?? I went back (in October), wanted the hyst and he tried to talk me into the thermochoice, less radical...but didn't know if the thermochoice would stop the cramping or the bleeding or that matter...so he finally agrees to the hyst but wants to do it the week of x-mas....I say no...so then not until Feb....so I asked for a referral. I just didn't feel comfortable with him...he was so wishy-washy and wouldn't/couldn't answer my questions...I asked him, as he sees these problems in women all the time, which procudure, in his opinion would have the best results....wouldn't answer...I was not asking him to make my decision...just give an educated opinion. I called my family doc back and he couldn't understand what the problem was...he recommended hyst from the get-go..
So off for a 2nd opinion tomorrow and I am kind of nervous....
thanks for listening..
Tricia

2nd doctor's visit
Hi Tricia,
I can understand about you being nervous. You need to have a doctor who will be understanding about your feelings. I would not want to have the other procedure done if they're not sure it would correct your problems.
Maybe you could have your primary care doctor call this second doctor that you are seeing and have them discuss your condition. You never know.....maybe it would help.
Good luck and let us know how the visit went.

Hello
Hi Tricia that is great that you got a second opinion. Let us know how it goes.
I have a question to ask you? My problems were quite similar to yours. Did your periods get worse after you Tubal? I beleive that mine did. Some Drs think that is unscientific and others agree that it can ruin your periods!
Thanks and good luck

darn tubals
I had my tubal 20 yrs ago, and after that I had problem, never before. I have seen so much info suggesting that tubals are a culprit. I wish I would have never had mine. My ovaries were and are normal, but had scar tissue all around from my tubal. I had early menopause, which doctors kept telling me you are too young. So many years no one would help. I am interested to see if my hormone levels increase now that they cleaned up the ovaries, but I am still taking my Premarin. I get blue if I dont and sing nobody loves me and I'm goin out to eat worms. (IF you dont know that song, i will sound crazy)

Take care

Hi Tricia
Sounds like the second opinion is a great idea - even a third or fourth! Especially if you feel uncomfortable. There are a lot of great drs out there. Where in Minn are you? (I'm in the cities) Do you have access to a number of drs? Sometimes a travel to a bigger city might be warranted? Good luck tomorrow and let us know how everything goes.

Tricia,
Please let us know how your appt for a 2nd opinion goes. You do need a Dr. with whom you can feel comfortable. The condition your current Dr. describes sounds like endometriosis. "Thermochoice" sounds like thermal balloon ablation...is that correct? If so, it might be worth a shot to avoid major surgery. Ablation has worked for the long-term for many women. I got two good years from it, but as I said, many others get relief for the long haul.
Your Dr. cannot guarantee that ablation will solve all your problems, any more than he can guarantee that a hyst will solve everything. A hyst helps many woman, but some women get a new set of problems from having that surgery.
I guess I'm saying that it's good to carefully investigate all your options before choosing this major surgery. It did give me my life back, but I also had tried everything else possible first.
Looking forward to hearing from you...
Linda

tubal
I can't believe that there are other woman who believe their problems got worse with their tubal. I also had a tubal nine months age and before then I did not have any trouble with heavy bleeding or cramping. I asked my doc and he said it was just a coincidence. Although, I am not sure if the endo existed until then. Seems to me there are too many people for this to be coincidental.
Anyway, good luck on your second opinion and I hope you find a doctor you are comfortable with ( they are truly rare ). However, don't settle until to do. Let us know how it goes.
Melanie
