Abdominal Incision opening up after staples removed

I had a total hysterectomy on January 27, 2011. They also removed my apendix and did repair work on my bowel and bladder, one of the tumors they removed weighed 6 lbs. I went into the doctors office yesterday and they removed my staples and then told me the incision opened up about 3 inches and had a lot of fluid coming out of it so told me they were not going to close the incision but instead let the infection drain. Now I have a nurse who comes in twice a day to change the dressing which they are telling me could take about 6 weeks to heal..has this problem happened to anyone else? now I am scared to even bend over in fear it will open even more. any advice would be greatly appericated. Re: Abdominal Incision opening up after staples removed

I'm sorry that you had that happen. How scary for you! I know there are members on this site who have had the same experience, so you're not alone.

Please feel welcome to start a new thread on the Post-Op message board so that members can offer support and share their experiences, too. There's helpful information and hints for you to browse through in the Post-Op Page resource which Princess Ruby linked, so enjoy having a look there as you feel up to it.

I'm sending best wishes as you continue to heal!
