Need Help For Bladder Issue
I had my TAH in November of 2009, almost 15 months ago. I have done well, but I have recently suffered with a bout of bronchitis, and when I cough I am leaking urine and enough of it to have to change clothes! I am miserable with this and I'm wondering if I need to tell my doctor I'm having stress incontinence. I am 45 years old. What can they do about this, and does it sound like I would need another surgery?
Thanks for any advice.

Re: Need Help For Bladder Issue
oh no, yeah it sounds like stress incontinence, i am having a little bit now and have wet a few times but not enough to change all my clothes
the surgery has been really bad for a lot of people, the one where they use mesh, do a search on here and look for that
i think they can try some meds, i think taking some hormones can help too

Re: Need Help For Bladder Issue
Thanks for the advice. Currently I'm taking Vivelle Dot .05. Do you think I should ask about upping my estrogen?

Re: Need Help For Bladder Issue
I just had surgery 3 weeks ago and my bladder needed repair along with a vaginal hysterectomy and rectocele repairs. My doctor used my own tissue to secure my bladder back into place. I had a burch procedure done. I also had cestocele repair for my urethra. Definitely talk to your doctor and have him check your urethra and bladder for prolapse. If it has prolapsed, it will only get worse with time if left untreated. Good luck.

Re: Need Help For Bladder Issue
there is a pelvic floor program called Total Control Program. my pelvic floor PT suggested it. maybe this could help you avoid surgery....

Re: Need Help For Bladder Issue
Before surgery for cystocele/bladder repair, too frequent voiding with constant urge. After surgery (it's been three weeks) , no urge to void at all, but constant leaking with no control. I have to consciously remember to void or I will suddenly have accidents. Doc says do kegels every day, which I am, but see no difference. I am afraid of permanent nerve damage. He says come back in two weeks and that later he will try something else. Anyone else have this debilitating problem?

Re: Need Help For Bladder Issue
kegels don't really show improvement until 6-12 months after doing them consistently and in the right way, physical therapy may help you but i am not sure with constant leaking.
has he checked for a fistula? that can cause constant leaking too.
i am so sorry that just sounds horrible
did you have a sling for your bladder neck or just a cystocele repair. Did they do lots of bladder tests ahead of time (ie move your cystocele out of the way to see if you would leak once they tied it up)?

Re: Need Help For Bladder Issue
I too am going to Pelvic Floor PT and Dr. added 2 grams Estrace every night to build up vagina walls. Hopefully this will help or at least prolong having surgery.
