Severe onset of abdominal pain after urination

Ok this is for those of you with IC or ENDO - the other night I woke up at 4am with a painful bladder (not uncommon as I have been having a painful bladder when its full for last few months - my urologist thinks either urethral syndrome or IC although neither have been confirmed yet) after I emptied my bladder I got this severe abdominal pain so bad that I buckled to the floor and had to crawl to bed. It just got progressively worse and although there was a constant severe sharp pain I started getting waves of severe cramping. We ended up calling 911 and I went to emergency. I could barely talk, could only lie on my left side as the pain seemed to be lower right area between my scar and belly button and definitely had trouble walking. They did an X-ray, couldn't do CT because I had one two months ago that showed normal, and I did blood and urine test. Those all came back normal. I was jacked up with to lots of morphine and gravol before the pain level came down to a a 6. Then they told me to go boem there was nothing they could do. I pretty much had to crawl out of the hospital and into the backseat of our car to get home. The pain lasted until midnight before easing off. I'm seeing an endo specialist in two weeks. Has anyone had similar symptoms? Can IC Flares get that severe? .

Re: Severe onset of abdominal pain after urination

Hi kamloops, Ive had IC for three years and never had that, mind you i've been using pain meds for most of it for other reasons. Could it have been maybe adhesions that did something funny. Im assuming the X-Ray did not show anything? Could have of been bowel pain that didn't show up either.

I've got similar pain to what you are describing and the URO I saw today is doing a cysto this wednesday to check for scarring in the urethra and possible cystocele. Do you have trouble emptying your bladder? that is what made me go to the URO in the first place. he can stretch the urethra right away if it looks like it narrowed. Will let you know what happens.

Good Luck on the 22nd.

Re: Severe onset of abdominal pain after urination

Thank you for your response. I'm seein my Uro today for a follow up appointment so I'm anxious to hear what he has to say. My immediate thought was maybe adhesions around my bowel but yes the xray showed negative. It was just so incredibly painful but there was never any burning sensation while urinating during that time. I have been having problems with slow urination though....most times but not always. Well I will see what he says and let you know. Thanks again.

I'm two days post op from a davinci hysterectomy.(left the ovaries). I had excruciating pain the first day after trying to urinate (twice). I was totally fine before I had to go. They finally put the catheter back in and gave me an opiate suppository.(thank God). Today I had my pee party after pain meds and an opiate suppository. No pain but now I'm home and although I can urinate I get severe cramping that last several minutes after I go. I am taking an oral medication for bladder spasms..she no worky. I am also very bloated and my bubbles are shifting around. Help...

Re: Severe onset of abdominal pain after urination

Kamloops,
I have both IC and had Endo and had urethral problems as well. I have had IC pain that bad I have also had adhesions take me to my knees in crying pain. It could really be a number of things. I got the best results from a uro/gyno and he is sapecializes in endo and IC . I have had the urethra streched a couple times had two cysto (lookin in the bladder and removing tumors from inside) I have had a hysto. I have the interstim put in had abdominal surgery to remove ovaries had amny lasps for scar tissure and ahesions and endo. I just recently had a very large rectocele hernia I have had that put in a sling along with the ureathra. I am having a suregy next Friday to do a revison on the rectocele sling. didnt heal right. not doctors fault My body is not cooperating. anyway. I have had pain like that for all the reasons you spoke of at one time or another. I would try an see if you can find a uro/gyno in your area as they know urology and gynocology well and most times they go hand in hand. What test have they ran on you. and what were the results? I hope you are feeling better. let me know Rhonda
