Help...blisters

hello,

I nee yalls advice. I am 7days post-op. I had my staples removed yesterday (TAH-BSO). They put those terri strips with glue on. I have been doing so great no pain, walking resting etc..........

tonite I got out of the shower and on two of the strips are quarter size blisters....under the tape is bruised and blistered......could this be an algeric reaction....I'm not running a fever....I called the nurse on duty at ER and said for me to call doc. in the morning(office opens at 10) since I wasn't running a fever. Have to wear a pad over area I guess incase blisters pop.

Has anyone had this problem. Would love to hear some advice right now.

thanks so much

Help...blisters

Sounds like an allergic reaction to me. When I was in the castle I had some weird latex rubbery bandage all the way across my hips. I started itching like crazy and got big quarter sized blisters under it. I kept telling the nurses to take it off but they were scared of my doctor! I made them take it off and tell her I did it. It was pretty awful and I still have scars where the blisters were. Try taking Benedryl until you can get in to your doctor. It won't hurt anything if it isn't allergic.

hi

Hello - I am currently wearing steri strips. I don't have any blisters. I think you are having some type of reaction. Did they use an adhesive to keep the strips on? Maybe it is the adhesive?

Hope you get better - RobinS

Yes they do hurt

Sheri

When I had my first C-section I got blisters from the steri-strips. It was caused by the sweat around the incision and the fact that the area was swollen when they were put on. As the swelling went down the skin was rubbing against itself and caused the blisters. Mine popped when the nurse took the strips off.

Definetly call your doctor before you do ANYTHING though. Ask him if you can remove the strips and apply fresh ones. You can buy them at any pharmacy.

Good luck and don't play with the blisters. You don't want an infection.

Sounds like an allergy

I am allergic to steri-strips - I found out when I started getting hives under my strips after a surgery five years ago - fortunately it was a lap and there weren't too many strips. The first time the hives took about 4 days to appear, and they really weren't too bad. 2-1/2 years ago I had a mole removed and the Dr. put a steri strip over the incision. This time I got a huge hive in less than 4 hours! I've been told to never use steri-strips again... and my Dr. said, he didn't want to mess around with anything similar for fear of infection. So, PLEASE call you Dr! You need to get those steri-strips off!

God Bless - Wendy

Steri strip problems

Hello. I came to this forum looking for information on possible steri-strip allergy. I have been terribly itchy at the incision site, which I had attributed to healing. But today in the shower the steri-strips finally came away entirely from the skin (in third week of recovery), and I have weird blisters, and red parallel lines running up from the incision where the steri strips were located. I have no fever, and no bealing from the incision site, so I don't think I'm looking at infection here.

Has anyone else had a bad reaction at the incision site, where the steri-strips where bolstering the sutures?

Thanks

NancyJ.

Help...blisters

Many people are allergic to paper tape, which includes steri-strips. I had four from my LAVH, and had to remove them within three days. The scars from the blisters was worse than the scars from the surgery - and in perfect square patterns too! In the future, make sure to have this put in your medical chart - and be very clear.

I told the nurses, doctors, everyone "No paper tape." When they removed my iv, yep - the nurse started to come at me with paper tape . . . I said NOOOOO. She then looked at my arm band and said "Oh - that's right, you're allergic."

Of course, didn't think anything about the square clear patches on my stomach. I use the patch for quitting smoking, and the area is always very red by that night, but it was the first time I had something like that on more than 24 hours - and for me, it's a big no no.
