Petrified...can they still operate next wk???

Hi everyone

i am really worried and need some guidance....and where better to go then here??? ( have a doc appt in an hr, but was hoping for some soothing reassuring words before i go)

I am scheduled for a Laproscopic Total hysterchtomy (sp?) early next week, and have been feeling for the past few days unwell...felt that i was fighting something. Well, low and behold last night i felt exhausted and was in bed by 8:30 pm and was coughing terribly...this morning, i woke up with a really sore throat and barely a voice!! Now, i am petrified as i have waited for nearly a yr to have surgery, and now that i am so close this happens??? what if they won't do the surgery now AGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I can't believe my luck.

I am going in to see my family doctor and see what she says. Not even sure if i should be calling my OB/GYN who will be doing the surgery first.

What would you ladies do in my shoes??

any and all advice is greatly appreciated

Re: Petrified...can they still operate next wk???

Your symptoms sound like my daughter who was just diagnosed with Mono. I told my Dr yesterday and was told to monitor myself and if I start to have symptoms to give them a call.

My fingers are crossed for you that things turn out just the way they are supposed to.

Re: Petrified...can they still operate next wk???

Hopefully by next week the biggest part of this bug will be gone for you and they can go ahead as planned- especially if you are keeping in close contact with your Dr and can quickly get any necessary meds to kick this.

Good luck and fingers crossed for you!!

Re: Petrified...can they still operate next wk???

Thank you to all who responded!!

I have an update... I went tomy family doctor and she says that i have a throat infection and am now on antibiotics till the day before my surgery.

Now here is where things are a bit confusing for me. My family doctor says there is no need to tell my OB/GYN as i will be off the meds before the surgery, and that my surgery can go on as planned, but a little part of me thinks i should call my OB/GYN and let her know that i am now on antibiotics...but am scared if she decides to reschedule as afterall, it is she who will be doing the surgery.

What would you sisters do???

Re: Petrified...can they still operate next wk???

I would tell her so that there is no risk of any issues with the fact that you will be stopping antibiotics the day before surgery. I truly would be very surprised if this in any way changed your surgical date. To have this info, you GYN could possibly choose to make changes to whatever antibiotics or other meds they plan on giving you during or after surgery.

Good luck and glad you got some meds!

I agree with Amy about being honest with your gyn about the antibiotics and anything else you might take prior to the day of your surgery.

Re: Petrified...can they still operate next wk???

Im with Daisylily I would tell my obgyn just so that there is no thought in the back of your mind that you should have. I dont think there would be any reason for them to reschedule just because of a throat problem, but as always the antibiotics can cause you to have an unbalansed ph in your body which can effect you by giving you a yeast infection.
Best of luck and I hope everything goes well for you.

Re: Petrified...can they still operate next wk???

GREAT NEWS!!!!!

Spoke to the receptionist at OB/GYN's office and she said no worries about antibiotics for throat. They will do the surgery as long as there is no fever.

What a relief!!!

Thank you everyone for being there for me.

Now just a few more sleeps and i have the hysterectomy....i confess that i am starting to really get nervous now...but know that this frustrating journey which caused me to already get a blood transfusion is about to come to an end. I sure hope that life will be normal after....just worried about the sex part.
