1 week post-op / pain in abdomen
I had my TAH on 11/6/01, I think I did fairly well, had surgery on Tues, home on Fri. I had 22 staples, which seems like a fairly large incision to me, but it is healing nicely, still have steri strips on. Its terrible, but I cant remember the name of my condition that required this surgery, starts with an A, basically an enlarged uterus with heavy bleeding/cramping. The biggest problem I had was bowel movement/gas pains. The gas pains were almost unbearable, had numerous suppositories in the hospital, which finally worked. Then it seemed to stop again, had to take laxatives at home, and I think I am finally almost back to normal. Although, I still get those gas pains that seem to get stuck right above my pelvic bone and take my breath away, until it passes. Anyone had this problem?
I have been listening to my instructions, mainly laying around on couch all day, letting everyone do the housework. I have been doing a lot of getting up and down for bathroom, etc. with very limited pain. Yesterday, I started getting this occasional abdominal pain, it seems to be fairly deep, just above my incision, kind of like a shooting pain, but it doesnt last for long. I was just wondering if anyone experienced this, and if so, is it just internal healing that is happening? I go to the Dr tomorrow so I can ask him, but I wanted to see if this happened to anyone else. Thanks for any information anyone can give me.
Leslie

1 week post-op / pain in abdomen
Dear Leslie:
I can relate as far as those pains go. I am now 6 weeks post op and don't seem to be having much pain unless I sit for too long but for the first 4-5 weeks I would have little shooting, stabbing pains and not just when I moved. Sometimes they would take my breath away but they were normal, healing pains. Of course ask your doctor but I bet that is what he will say. Sounds like you are taking good care of yourself which is the best thing you can do
I can't really help you with the gas issues as I was lucky in that department. Never had much trouble. Hopefully someone else will come along with words of wisdom for you.
Keep taking care of yourself and get lots of
Betty

Condition
Could the condition have been called adenomyosis? I had a TVH on 10/15. I was diagnosted after the fact.
I had gas but nothing like you are describing. Have you been walking and drinking lots of fluids?
