HRT alternatives after hysterectomy

i had a hysterectomy in 97. I was on the Estrogen patch ever since. I dont want to be on the synthetic hormones anymore because I lost my mom to cancer last year and I dont want to take any chances. I have been using Estrotone and Hot Flash away, milk thistle, fish oil, omega 3 and 7 and Lithosen (spell?) anyway since I started all this i have gained 10 pounds i have headaches more and cant sleep at all. the hot flashes are frequent. I want to stay on the herbals but I just need to know how much of each you are supposed to take daily to manage the symptons.

Re: HRT alternatives after hysterectomy

I believe it is different for each individual on how much and which products work the best. The alternative approach also takes longer for it to start working.
Exercise and diet make a difference for me. I sleep better with exercise and by cutting out or cutting back all caffeine, any alcohol, sugar, white flour and going toward lean chicken, fish, turkey, veggies, fruits , and whole grains. I had to quit eating processed foods as well.

I was on the vivelle dot patch for 7 years and have been off now for almost a year and a half, and take nothing, but vitamins and fish oil. I have a hot flash sometimes, but not a problem. I never really found any alternatives to work as well as estrogen. I took it to get me through the time when it was so severe. My mom died of ovarian cancer and dad had prostate, so cancer is in my family.

I hope you find what works for you.
