The hospital bill came today...

The amount before the insurance company makes adjustments: $32,000.00. Yikes! I hope the "adjustments" bring the total down a lot.

Re: The hospital bill came today...

I had a DaVinci hysterectomy and they submitted a bill to ins. co for 35,000+ and they didn't do it right apparently because the ins co. rejected it! They have resubmitted it yet so I'm going to call them Monday and see if we can get the ball rolling.

Re: The hospital bill came today...

So far my bill before adjustments is 30,000.00 for LAVH {uterus/overies removed} the scarey part is not all the charges are in as of yet, just the hospital and the anasteologists {I had 2 Dr.s}. I think it's amazing, that my surgery cost as much as my and DH first house.

Re: The hospital bill came today...

The charges for only the hospital portion for mine was $91,000. I had uterus/tubes removed with the DaVinci.

My insurance will pay close to $10,000 and the remaining amount will be adjusted off.

Re: The hospital bill came today...

Don't get me wrong, I am extremely grateful that I have pretty good insurance. Once the bill is adjusted, I will only have to pay 10%.

I think it is ridiculous that there isn't a standard "price". Why does the same surgery cost one price if you don't have insurance, and a much lower price if you do? It's still the same surgery.

Re: The hospital bill came today...

Haven't received my bill from hospital yet. I saw that so far my Dr sent in for $3300 and the anesthesiologist was $2000- but I don't know about the OR, overnight stay or anything else yet. I pay $200 deductible and then 20% after insurance takes their discounts...

I'm scared!

Re: The hospital bill came today...

Don't get scared yet. You will only have to pay a percentage of the insurance company's negotiated fees with the doctors/hospital. You may be very surprised at how little those fees actually are. I think my hospital wrote off about 75% of the submitted bill. The insurance paid the rest. I had already hit my annual deductible, so I was out of pocket nothing.

My feeling is that you're under enough stress trying to heal. Don't ask for more when there's nothing you can do about it at this point.

Be well,
Laurie

Re: The hospital bill came today...

My bill arrived today it was 44,000 +
the insurance already paid there portion. I only had my co pay minus 20% discount that was not applied on the bill. I called and was told it would be corrected right away.
Have a good evening and I hope everyone feels better soon

Re: The hospital bill came today...

Mine was 17K just for hospital. LVAH...anestesia (sorry for bad spelling!) was 2300, haven't gotten the doctor's bill yet. Very thankful to have insurance. Have not seen what the adjusted amount is going to be.
