Atypical Endometrial Hyperplasia and Polyps- Any success w/Alternative Therapies?

I am 31 years old. I recently was dx (post hysteroscopy and D&C) with Atypical Endometrial Hyperplasia and affected endometrial polyps. My RE is recommending 3 months of provera, a re-biopsy at the end of the 3 months. If the provera has not helped resolve the atypical endometrial cells, then my RE would like me to consider additional D&C then potential hysterectomy if the D&C is positive for pre-cancerous cells. I was also Dx with PCOS in 1999.

My paternal grandmother had abnormal uterine bleeding resulting in hysterectomy then subsequent ovarian cancer. I also found out yesterday that my maternal grandmother was a user of DES, therefore I am a DES granddaughter.

I am here to look for people who have had similar issues as I have, but have avoided hysterectomy or used alternative therapies to decrease or eliminate the need for hysterectomy. Any stories of alternative therapies would be greatly appreciated in trying to help me learn more about my condition. Thank you!

Lena -

Sorry to hear that you are looking at possible cancer and a hysterectomy.

You may want to do a search on Megace using the search feature on the site. You will find some threads of those who have used it to temporarily keep the atypical cells from progressing. Usually Megace is recommended for younger women who are attempting to get pregnant. Once the pregnancy is complete they undergo a hysterectomy.

There may have been one recent thread where the member said the megace reversed things more permanently, although they under go additional D&Cs to make sure that it doesn't return.

I hope this helps you and that you receive some additional insight on this approach from other members.

Thank you so much for the info! I just got a prescription for Megace today- I have to fill it tomorrow. I definitely want to know more and appreciate your insight about the search feature and others who have achieved pregnancy and delayed hysterectomy at a younger age. Definitely gives a bit more optimism to me
