Re: Belly bands

I used my binder 2wks, day and night only took it off to shower, then I only wore it when I felt sore. I found it very helpful sleeping, it held everything in place. You will know, when you don't need it anymore, you will comfortable without it.

Re: Belly bands

Thanx This first day I went out without it and I am so sore and hurt. Now thinking I should have worn it longer I usually where it when I go out and will be up for a bit and when I sleep so I can lie on my side.

Re: Belly bands

I'm now only wearing mine for sleep and when I do my in home walk. Other than that, I've had it off for about a week now. My doctor said they should only be used for my comfort, not a crutch, and certainly not as long as a hernia patient would need to wear one (I had an umbilical hernia repair in 2008, and needed to wear the abdominal binder for three months!).

As long as you need it for comfort, I'd say continue to wear it. You will definitely know when it's time to toss it aside

Re: Belly bands

Can I ask where you guys got them? I had my surgery via da vinci on June 30 and I just feel like I need to almost carry my belly around I have seen them online but there's so many sizes and all I didn't really know where to start.

Is it too late to get one since I'm already 11 days post op?

Thanks!!

Belly bands

I am 5 days post op and love my binder. I call it Betty the Binder, the worlds most supportive friend. I wear it all the time, it helps with swelling and makes sleeping easier. My doctor thinks the are great to use, especially if they help. I got mine at the pharmacy the called it an abominable binder. About 20 bucks. I also had daVinci, 5 days ago.

Re: Belly bands

I wore mine 24/7 the first month post-op. I went to work the second month and tried to wear support panties the first day. I blew up like a balloon and brought new meaning to the term "muffin top". I put it back on that evening to compress the swelly belly and then wore it the next month at work and the gym, any time I was afraid activity would bring swelly belly back. After about two months the swelly belly seemed to subside so I wore my band less and less, then only to the gym. Then one day not at all. My belly band helped me through the rough times and then we parted, lol.

I had two of the hospital bands, very wide & thick and then ordered 2 less wide, thinner bands. The thinner bands rolled when I sat down, so I went back to the ones from the hospital. Luckily I was able to hide them under my dress clothes with a collection of shrugs.

You'll know what feels good. I let my swelly belly guide me. Let your body guide you.

It is never too late for the belly band. I got mine from this site. I got the one that has the pocket for the icepacks! It was a life saver. I actually got two of them because my hubby had to have his gall bladder removed 2 weeks into my recovery and he wore it for a couple of weeks. It comes with the ice paks... I wore mine for at least a couple of months, it really helps the swelly belly and when I drove and the seat belt hit just that spot, it helped protect it. I will never get rid of my belly band!
