Being overweight and going under GA

Hello, I am a 25 and I was told by my doctor I need a TVH because of my high grade dysplasia. I am almost 6 foot 3 and 245 pounds. I am scheduling my pre-ops within the next week and I don't know if I might be a too overweight to get GA? this would be my 4th surgery but when I had the last 3 I was athletic and in shape and I was 17. I was wondering if there were any women that were overweight and still got the GA/ and were fine post-op? Thank you!

Re: Being overweight and going under GA

I've had 4 surgeries over the years & have always been over weight. I was your weight with my last one, and because of my phyical and hormonal issues, I've put on more (hit 365, down to 282, still have a whole person to go). I had some difficulty breathing after my last surgery, but other than that I was fine.

I'm overweight, 5,7 and 272 lbs. And it's never been a problem for me.

Re: Being overweight and going under GA

I'm overweight, 212 and only 5 foot 3. No problems at all... make sure to ask for nausea medicine, they can give it to you in your IV . I was worried about being sick when I woke up and whatever they gave me took care of it.

Good luck, you'll be fine!

Me too, 5'4" and 200. I had no problems, they did however put these white things on my legs that inflated with air to keep bloodclots down. I don't know if this was because of my size or if its SOP.

Me also... 5'8" and 230 and no problems with my last surgery in November.

@Mango - the inflatable leg cuff thingies are pretty standard nowadays - my breast surgeon says that he orders it for all of his patients.

Re: Being overweight and going under GA

The leg things are great. My doc gave me a script for the nausea patch. It worked great for my surgery a few months back. And they did the IV meds as well. They are doing both of them for this surgery too.

5'8" and 247 here. No issues at all. I did have some vomiting after the surgery, but I'm certain it was from the pain pump. Once I stopped using it the vomiting ceased. No drama otherwise.

Just had a TAH done in Monday under GA and I'm over weight. I have had no problems. Good luck and best wishes.
