Tender swollen tummy / spasms 14 weeks post op

Hello All

I have read and posted a response about this problem before but was wondering if anyone had any new experiences to share.

I had my TAH / BSO 14 weeks ago but am still experiencing tenderness, slight swelling just below my navel and the dreaded spasm / contraction every time I need to move when I'm asleep at night. Upon waking up I know I have to move in a deliberate manner as my tummy is going to spasm like crazy for a few seconds.

Doctors didn't seem to take any notice of me when I tried to describe it - so I don't really know if I should be concerned and make a fuss at the doctors or if its just part of my healing process and things are just taking there time.

I did have a period about 2 weeks ago when my tummy was very swollen and tender but has since improved a lot but the spasms are still happening to a lesser degree.

If someone can give me some advice or share a similer experience I would be so so grateful.

nlp I thought I was the only one who was experiencing those dreaded ***every time I wake up at night tummy clenching/tightening/spasm/stretching contractions!!! *** wow...I had a SAH/BSO almost 8 weeks ago and from about the end of the 1st week home I started those things and even tho I do not have as many as I used too...I still have them!! It scares me sometimes, because I am trying to heal and my incision is still so sore and when those things happen it tightens everything up from my belly button down to my pelvic and my legs automatically start to stretch too! lol its weird! It did hurt for awhile until I learned to take a breath relax and breath OUT when those spasms are going on it helps!! **HUGS** to you and may God bless you!!

It's funny that you mention this. Last night I was awaken every hour with belly spasms, making me feel the need to pee, and everytime I would catch myself stretching my legs; which by the way hurts (I'm six days post op today). Hopefully I can catch up on some sleep tonight. Good luck to both of you and best wishes always

Thank you so much PlumNice and Astinson, it is so comforting to know you are not alone in what is happening to your body.PlumNice also thank you for the breathing advice, I shall try in tonight. Oh and the legs automatically stretching is a very good description and part of what happens to me too.

Love to all who are healing.

OMG.. I've been having spasms like crazy. It only seems to happen when I am lying down and sometimes they are so severe that if I am in a deep sleep, it's like someone is grabbing me and shaking me violently. It doesn't hurt, but it's just so darned annoying!!

I have night terrors, and it's already sparked off 1 panic attack.

I have also found if I bend my knees and bring my feet up like I am going to push myself up on the couch (with my feet) and breathe out during the contraction/spasms it helps tons! I then straighten my legs back out and stretch both legs slowly. ***HUGS*** to you all and God bless you!

Re: Tender swollen tummy / spasms 14 weeks post op

I am also just over 14 weeks and still have problems with swollen and tender belly, but the tenderness can vary and be either in the pubic area below the scar where it seems to be either partially numb or sore, along the scar and across the abdomen just below my belly button. How sore it is seems to depend on what I have been doing so I guess it must be part of the healing process and my body telling me to slow down a bit. I also have strange cramps that come and go so you are not alone.
