feel like I am going backwards in my recovery

when I came home I was alert and wanted to do a lot of moving around. now its 8 days post op and I am in more pain, I am tired, kind of scatterbrained. Is this typical?

Re: feel like I am going backwards in my recovery

Some days will be better than others. When you feel like this-you need to rest. When I was 8 days post op, I followed what my body told me. If I was tired, I did nothing but rest that day. If I felt good, I would try to do a lunch date with my sister or friend. Don't rush, you will get there.

Re: feel like I am going backwards in my recovery

You are experiencing the normal feelings. I was really sore and tired for about 2 or 3 weeks. Then I started to get more and more energy.
Just watch for signs of infection (fever, puss coming out of incisions or foul odors.) If you still keep feeling bad call the doctor. Always better to be safe. You know your body better than anyone. Hang in there!

Re: feel like I am going backwards in my recovery

Hi

Pain is a good indication that we are "overdoing" during recovery. You are still very newly post-op and need to be very careful about doing too much.

Being tired is normal during recovery, as your body is using all of it's energy healing and recovering.

Unfortunately, the "scatterbrain" is so common that we have a smilie for it.... and call it "brain fog". It does improve with time, although at 6 years post op, I still have some days that are worse than others. It is probably a hormonal thing.

Best wishes for a continued good recovery, and don't forget you still need lots and lots of rest!

Re: feel like I am going backwards in my recovery

I am only on day 5 and I feel like every morning I take two steps forward, and in the evening I take 4 steps backward. I was told it will be a roller coaster. honor yourself, and listen to the body!

I already have people telling me I should be further along, guess what!!?? not one of those people were her holding my hand last night when it was at its worst, not one of them was telling me its OK! and NOT one of them has had a hysterectomy!!!

I now as of day 5 only answer the phone and speak to those that are actually supportive and understanding.

Don't be hard on yourself, rest and do what feels right!

wishing you a healthy recovery!

Re: feel like I am going backwards in my recovery

Dandy, I 10000% agree. I have really been shown who my real friends are through this. I have cleared up my facebook, screen my calls and surround myself with support and positiveness.

nice to know Im not going nutso with the brain fog! I am 41.. I guess i am stuck with it LOL

I said... upon waking... that I need to just lay around today (same as yesterday) but of course I go to heat up my chili... i see a counter needing wiped. I take a shower and the kids left toothpaste all over the place... Its those things that get me. But I am laying back down. I am behaving.

I very much appreciate your support systers!!
