1 Year Post Op

ITS BEEN ONE YEAR SINCE MY ABDOMINAL HYSTERECTOMY. HAD MY 1 YEAR VISIT TO GYNECOLOGIST ( I HADN'T SEEN HER SINCE MY 6 WEEK POST OP APPT) AND SHE HAD TO USE SILVER NITRATE FOR SOME GRANULATION TISSUE? ALSO, I SEEM TO HAVE DEVELOPED AN OVERACTIVE BLADDER. SHE PUT ME ON DETROL BUT THAT ISN'T ALL THAT EFFECTIVE. I ALSO HAVE SOME SUTURES AT THE UMBILICAL SITE THAT NEVER QUITE DISSOLVED. I GO BACK ON 12/4 FOR A RECHECK AND TO DEAL WITH THE SUTURES. OTHER THAN THAT....I STILL GET SORE WHEN I DO ABDOMINAL EXERCISES BUT CONTINUE TO EXERCISE AT LEAST 4-5 DAYS A WEEK. I DO FEEL SOME SLIGHT PAIN AND "TUGGING" AT TIMES, BUT JUST CONTINUE TO KEEP GOING ON NO MATTER WHAT. HOW LONG DOES IT REALLY TAKE TO RECOVER FROM ALL OF THIS?

Sorry for the late reply!

I just now saw this one. It really does take up to one full year before you finall feel "yourself". For me, it took a good deal longer, but I had complications during/after my surgery.

Here's some info on the overactive bladder -- vagifem is a pill that you insert (you guessed it - THERE) that delivers estrogen to your bladder and surrounding tissue. After tah/bso it's common to have bladder problems because of decreased estrogen and thinning vaginal walls. Give that a try...it's alot more effective in my experience than detrol.

It also took me over a year, and I am still fighting some issues to this day. As for the bladder issues, I agree with Adrite. Check into some sort of vaginal estrogen. I had alot of pain and incontinence with the bladder and my hormone doc put me on vaginal estrogen. That helped immensely. Although it didn't do a whole lot for my incontinence. I recently had surgery called TVT (Tension-Free Vaginal Tape) to help with the incontinence. And I am happy to say that I am COMPLETELY DRY now

Wishing you the very best.
